Did it run when you got it?

Is there any water on the dipstick?

Water should NOT come out of the lower block or the crankshaft seal , are you sure it's not running down from somewhere above there? For example there's a very short hose between the water pump and the cylinder head, those go bad and would leak straight down like that.

You either need to look more closely, or have someone knowledgeable look at it with you.

Also, go online and buy a Bentley manual, it will have the right answers to any questions you have - money well spent.

The correct firing order is 1-3-4-2, but of course you need to know where #1 is on the dist cap first.

You need to do some basics first....

1) Check the compression - if you don't have any it won't run. Check your valve clearances.

2) Check and/or set the points and timing

3) ensure that the plug wires are on the correct cylinders

4) make sure you have fire at the plugs

5) make sure you have (good) fuel getting to the carb

If you have all of those right, it should run.

looking at your video I think that your water pump is on its last legs...(is it a cast metal) very early water pump as these ate prone to wear out brarings and leak and as above for correct dizzy cap lead order If I were you I would change the points and condensor as well (points gap) 014 -016thou....spark (plug gap) 025thou....If you could list what you've done to this Rare 'S' motor I could be of more assistance...........

You should consider posting your questions on the Classic Mini Forum at:
http://www.minimania.com/msgthreads.cfm
Where are you located? You can probably find a local Mini nut that will come over to help!

The guy said the car ran..... I'm not upset though I wasn't expecting it to work for 1500 bucks.

There is no water on the dip stick. I will check again tomorrow but last time I checked there was no water.

Thanks for all that information that is all gonna be very helpful. I will try these things tomorrow. Well.....I will try the stuff that I have the knowledge to do. The other stuff someone is coming to help me with on Sunday.

Yeah I definitely need to replace the pump. I can't even get the filler cap open cause it is so rusted on.

I haven't done anything else on it though aside from the plugs and the ignition cables. It cost me a pretty penny to go get this car. The car itself was only $1500 but I went up to Canada to get it NC to Ontario 1600 miles total done in 2 days. Not sure how I did that.....

My thoughts exactly it was a once in a lifetime deal. Even with all the issues here and there it was for sure worth the money and the crazy drive to get it.

Also thanks for the tip. I'm still so new to this classic mini culture it's like sensory overload. I am looking forward to when I know a great deal about the cars and I am not so lost when it comes to working on them.

1) Buy a complete seervice manual, like a Bentley

2) Read it!

At least you'll have a working knowledge of terminology and where things are on the car. Also, as you work on it you'll find stuff you read about, each time you do the little lightbulb will go on! Trust me, it's the right way to start......
