Importing From Canada

Hey everyone!

I am wondering what obstacles I will run into if I wanted to purchase a mini in Canada? Is it easier to import than to import from say, the UK? I am looking at a project mini up there for sale and I want to make sure I understand the charges related to importing it. I will be doing the pickup myself so shipping will not be something I need to factor in. It's a 1960 mini.

In short:

1. Will there be fees?
2. Will there be an amount of time I will have to wait or something silly like that?
3. Is there anything serious I should be aware of?

I went over the information listed in the import sticky thread here but it seems to just cover cars coming via ports. Any help or guidance would be appreciated greatly.

I went up and ended up picking it up myself from Barrie Ontario, 1600 miles in two days. It was a bit rough. Here are the pix though!! I'm the one taking the pictures that's my dad tying it up. I'm the young one in the last picture.

Walked away with the mini plus a new front bumper for 1500 bucks!!

So, it looks like it went pretty smooth, the import I mean? US Customs let you thru without too much trouble? I know your Mini is obviously more than 25 years old (sliding windows and external door hinges), but I just wondered how much examination the Customs people put you thru ...

I ended up paying no duties when I came through customs although we were there for 1 1/2 hours. The car was a spectacle amongst all the officers.

I did also fall asleep while in customs lucky my dad was there or I would have slept through them calling my name. I'm not sure if I will have to pay duties or not the guy wrote a bill of sale of 500 dollars for me. If I do have to pay my guess is it will be at the DMV here.

Nice carbs on that baby!
Once restored, it will be more fun to drive than any new MINI...
Good luck
