Rear Shock Question

I have been steadily working on my rebuild project. This week I re-installed the rear subframe complete with with Hilo's. I have installed KYB Gas-Adjust rear shocks. Is there a requirement in terms of tightening the top rear shock bolt in the boot? I have found nothing in my books and it seems I can keep tightening and compressing the upper and lower bushings. I am in the process of painting my gas tank and once I install it, access to the rear shock mount becomes more difficult so I would like to be done with any adjustment to the rear shock mount.

Thanks

They must be tightened enough to fully compress both rubber insulators. Otherwise, the shock will knock against the body. There is no torque spec.

Just tighten until the rubber bushings are compressed, take on a rounded shape on the outside edges. No need to tighten so much that they extend beyond the metal washers that lie on either side. So snug but not so tight they're being mashed too much. Hope this helps.

I feel your pain! I've owned mine for nearly two years, and am still waiting to hear it run for the first time! The engine and tranny were both rebuilt, taking about a year, and now it's in the final stages of being put back together. Lots of new parts, painted suspension pieces, polished shiny stuff, and a beauty of a stainless DTM dual exhaust system. With luck the carbs will be finished nest week, the electrical sytem will be attended to, and it'll fire up in a couple of weeks. Good luck with yours!
