HELLO!

What happened here? I was expecting that there would be tons of posts to read and MCWill would have won the last prize by now!

When I started reading, I got all weepy... you guys missed me? Awww...

I actually was quite frozen... I think I went out on Tuesday night around 1:00am to see if my snowflake would turn on. In the garage it showed 60. So I started a little drive and it went down down down and then 37 DING- blinky blinky DING... it's officially f'ing COLD! And then it kept going down. Drove a few miles away from the house and the lowest I saw was 30. I think the temp actually got lower by early morning. Fortunately just a few plants were damaged... I was most worried about the palm trees but not much frost bite on 'em. Not like in the North where stuff comes back... pretty much when it dies... it dies.

I missed you too!

So when was the last time I was here? This is what happened... and why I was gone. I think it was Monday night my HD digital cable box started to get all messed up and I couldn't access any of my recorded shows. Next day I took the box in to the cable place, got a replacement and brought it home. The husband came home and the "new box" was also screwed up! So I go to the cable place again and get ANOTHER box come home and I have NO PHONE and NO INTERNET! The cable modem was GONZO! Not stolen... just not working. Chris was in the attic and we couldn't get it to work. Even more . So we think we can go to the cable place to exchange cable modems and we are told NO and that we have to wait for a tech to come here. TIME FRAME to expect a tech? 8am-8pm!

So it's Thursday and I haven't had internet or phone since about 3pm on Wednesday. It's almost 4pm and I decide to call and see if they have any idea WHEN the tech might be here. I explained that I knew the range was 8-8 but I just wanted to confirm that someone would still be coming here. So I am told, "You're scheduled for FRIDAY not today." I just about flip out. WTF! Somewhere along the way, the person that set the appointment on Wednesday forgot to say that it was "tentative" and that someone should have called me to let me know that they weren't going to make it. I said "yeah" and then said that "probably someone did call me but SINCE MY PHONE DOESN'T WORK they probaby just left a message". The lady says, "Well they have blah blah blah # (cell phone number)", so I said, "Well I guess there's NO excuse for someone not contacting me then?!?" Of course apologies from the lady on the phone and she continues by explaining that due to the digital TV changeover and so many people waiting until the last minute to hook up to cable they have been swamped. So, I said "I've been a customer for more than 7 years and the new people that are hooking up to basic cable are getting priority for waiting 'til the last minute?". UGGH!

So finally, tonight (between 6-8 was my appointment) and the guy was late. He was taking over for someone else that couldn't do it for whatever reason. He was really nice and actually seemed to know what he was talking about so he was able to leave with all limbs attached. Apparently the strength of the signal coming in was REALLY high... normally it should be -7 to 9 and we were at 22. He explained that the cable company has been amplifying signals and doing experiments with strength to compensate for all this digital stuff. Problem is, the company doesn't tell the techs about this (some are figuring it out on their own) and certainly the people on the phone know nothing.

Anyway, I've got my internet back! Over the next few weeks it could happen again... but we're hoping it won't. I was almost ready to go drive around and find an unsecured internet access just to see what was going on. (Actually I was thinking I may have a problem) ... but I only belong to this forum so maybe I'm ok. I'm hardly a Cybergypsy!

Cabwy- I can't believe that you squished your Sloopy! Hope she's better soon.

Sikamini- Thanks for posting that link. When I read your post I was thinking it was going to be a link to something else... so what you posted was different and something I was unaware of. Funny thing is that most everyone there thought it had to do with higher temps outside, but I was in 20-ish degree weather when my foot was hot. Hopefully it's all taken care of.

So I get the feeling that this thread is pretty much dead. I guess since Skillet decided to give up... most people don't want to come back. I see that Skillet is posting his "hot man" pics on Lady Godiva's new thread. Interesting. Maybe he doesn't love us anymore? My guess is that maybe he's just so annoyed about the whole Apple ***** thing... maybe it makes him feel bad to come here.

Just haven't been posting anything. I've gone back to lurking, I guess. The joy of this thread (and many of the others) just seems to be gone. I'm not even sure the promise of a potential prize would make any difference.

 

How very sad if this is truly the end of a great thread. I have so looked forward to seeing that a new post has come in at the end of a long day. I know that I will see each of you scattered about on other threads and will smile when I recognize familiar names. It has been my pleasure to share the holidays with each one of you and I wish you all the best in 2009 and many more years to come. As for Apple, I wish her the best too and I hope that she finds happiness. She must have her troubles and be a very sad person to do what she did.

I have been communicating with my favortie MA- Holly and she is fixing me up for Sloopy's repair, it will be pretty simple a portion around the brake light right below the C pillar needs replacing, I think Bob and I can do it and save evenr more $$$ so if it had to happen at least it was minor,,, I have to get over my extremem irritation at my client for insisting that I park in that crowded driveway and even more irritated with myself for listening!!

I simple must go find Skilet's hot photos!!!!

Miniola, thank goodness you're back, if you had been gone any longer we were coming in after you! with booties and blankets! well we planning to, but dam its too cold there! glad your back.
I hate the cable company and when we first moved in to this house, there was just a mess, they never showed up for 2 days in a row, and everytime we called they said they couldn't find us. (new house build in the country)! ARE YOU KIDDING, ASK FOR DIRECTIONS! after the 3 day we told them to forget it and we went dish and have been very happy since.
Our cable company has no competation so they can pretty much get away with not showing up...well I had to "go Italian" on them!

Steelers or Cardinals?

The Steelers look like the stronger team, but I think the Cardinals will be able to put it all together when they need to and will end up winning by a large margin. I know I'll be pulling for them; the Steelers have won it often enough, and the Cardinals only have the Cubs to thank for keeping them from being the longest championship-free drought in professional sports.

Go Cardinals!

 

I am kindof leaning that way myself... I was thinking that if the Cardinals win it will take some of the sting out of the poor Eagles,,, at least they got beat by the best. Teh cardinals are a young team and I liked how they hung in there. It is a tough decision becasue the Steelers are from my home state.
And even when I lived in OHIO---- I still liked the Steelers.
We are going to a Super Bowl party,,, that will be fun, even thoguh I think the plans were made when everyone thought that the Eagles would be in it!

Oh yeah... totally pissed about the cable company but a somewhat controlled pissed-ness. Didn't go all "Italian"... or did I? I don't think I have any Italian in my blood... but I've seen the movies! You talkin' to me?!?

I know about the wi-fi but figured that might make me seem "crazy". OK OK... yeah, surprise shocker... I know... too late for that! Actually I was thinking of calling Skillet (from my cell phone- since I didn't have a home phone) and have him put a post up that I was off-line for awhile. But of course, I didn't think I'd be off for as long as I was and I didn't really know if anyone would really notice that I wasn't there anyway. I'm sure you all know what it feels like when you post something and no one says anything... .

Kiki- That was really sweet and it's totally true. Unfortunately what she did was really really bad.

So, the Super Bowl- well I was really hoping the Bucs would be there but of course they're not. 2nd choice was the Colts... wanted Dungy to win the Super Bowl in Tampa to show those Leprechaun Glazers that they were stupid to let him go... but nope. So at this point I have no allegiance to any team. SO... just to "MAN IT UP"... I am partial to the color red and I like birds and I like underdogs... and I think that CC wants them to win (and since he's been a big part of educating us on the rotten apple at the bottom of the barrel)... GO CARDINALS!!

Now I've got to go do some "mad mods"... gonna put a hemi in the MINI today! I'm wearing my "RED ZONE" pit stick and ready to go... I need to shave my back and chew off my toenails... and then maybe I'll paint them with some Chanel! Pics later! HAHAHHAHAHAHHA!

Hey, has anyone ever noticed that motorcycle guys like Coopers? I always have big tough motorcycle guys talk to me and wave or nod and the other day I had a funny experience. I have one curvy road near my house and it's a 25 mph one. (Silly... but I don't think that would work as an excuse to get out of a ticket... ). Top down and I love to stomp on it... rev match... downshift and take the corners rather uh "spiritedly" . So I've got "Highway to Hell" cranked and I'm getting ready to go. A BMW SUV comes toward me and two ladies are just yacking at each other... then there's a guy on a motorcycle behind them. He sees that I'm just about to go wild and he sticks out his left hand and does the "slow down" motion. So I'm thinking, is there a cop or is he just trying to protect the road from the spirited drivers? I drop it down and do 25mph just in case. Radar is not going off but I figure "oh well"... more and more cops are using laser these days. Sure enough, I see a cop driving out of the bushes. Thanks motorcycle guy!!

Now as for the cop coming out of the bushes... I don't really think he was trying to catch speeders. He was actually coming out of a place where I was responsible for breaking up a theft crime ring! It was a mystery that the cops hadn't been able to figure out for a long time. More about this later. (It's a TRUE story and it involves my '05 CR!) BTW- I named the green rolly eyes guy!

Miniola, it's a mini event at the end of Feb. in Helen,Ga. In hindsight I think it was kind of a silly question as most who have posted here are not really that close to Helen. It is about 1.5 hrs north of Atlanta I think. My wife and I haven't been in a long time, I am probably off on the time.

 

Any of you all going to attend "MINIs on the Dragon" this year?

This will be the first time for us. I hope to be able to meet a lot of the great folks who have been posting here.

 

So are you in Georgia? On our trip in October I remember driving through Atlanta, Marietta, Macon and Cummings... not necessarily in that order. Any of those places around there? I guess I cold look at a map.

Can't believe all the Ohio connections. I moved to OH from Northern Ireland back in 1982. Went to the University of Akron for my engineering degree - Any Zips out there????

I returned to the Akron area (Green, OH) from Canada (Kingston, ON) in the late 80's and then returned to Massillion (south of Akron) again around 2002.

I left Massillon to live in Minster, OH - south and a little west from Lima. Any one been to Oktoberfest in Minster?????

From there I moved to Powell - N of Columbus for a year and a half. Went to church in Delaware and worked in Marysville - about 8 miles or so west of Dublin.

One of the plant managers I work with in Bowling Green, Ohio used to manage a plant in Washington Court House........

Oddest connection I have experienced is when we moved to Ohio from N. Ireland and the lady next door was related to a lady that worked for my father in N. Ireland - talk about Twilight Zone
