How Much Should I Pay For This Mini

Hey guys, I came across this 1981 Mini, the car was just recently refurbished and it runs like a beauty. I went to go see it in person and after a thorough inspect of the car I did not find any rust. I also brought it by a mechanic and he gave me a thumbs up. The car is owned by a family friend so I don't expect to come across any surprises.

The owner is asking 11K for the car and I wanted to know if you guys think its a good deal. What do you think?

About the average selling price for a running un-restored car is about 7-8K. Add on the the work you would need to do to it you're about in the right price range. Look at minimania's classifieds and see what cars in similar condition are going for.

This is just a heads up but just keep in mind it doesn't take much to rust a mini and theres alot of places for rust to hide. If you don't plan to treat it as a classic car it probably won't be rust free for long.

The car is in/from Chile?
It's a Mk3? 70's?
It's a 998 or 1275?

Im with Merchant to a point without seeing better picts and not knowing engine info, year etc.. but Id be in the $8000 range if it were me.

One thing to consider is WHERE was it refurbished? Refurbished in the states means a totally different thing than refurbished in the UK or any where else.

US refurb-stripped down to shell, all rust fixed then repainted, etc
UK refurb- little bondo, rattle can of paint touch up.....

This is purely an example and in no way a put down to my UK friends.

Best thing to do is to have someone else that knows classic minis look it over and let you know. As well another thing if its not in the US make sure you understand the registration process. There are many good example cars already in the US and RHD if thats what you want.

Since its in the US and local go and check it out again armed with knowledge of where the rust tend to deposit on the classics (everywhere ) and figure out if you want to pay to fix it etc... if you think the price is right and in love with the car, by all means buy it. I only speak from experience.
