Inspection for potential purchase. Please HELP!

Hey Fellow Mini-ers! As a proud MINI driver, I am looking to upgrade to a Mini (subsequently downgrading my payments). There's a 1975 (Leyland) Mini for sale in Fort Riley, Kansas...

I live in Chicago, Illinois! I was wondering if there is anyone from around that neck of the woods that would be able to 'inspect' it and give me an unbiased opinion on the shape of the car!

Please let me know ASAP

Thanks!

Post your request on Mini Mania's message board. I'm sure there's someone near, or may even know the car...

thanks for the heads up... Any advice on what else to look for? I'm not needing a 100%, perfect Mini. I'm just getting married and will have quite a few bills coming up. I don't drive as much as I needed to before for work, so I figure if I sell my MINI and get a Mini, then it's a win-win! BTW, how do Minis hold up in the winter?

I would want to see pics of the underside. It also kinda sucks that he has a song over that video, could be hiding something.

Carbed engines are a royal PITA to get started when it gets below freezing. You can have the carb tuned for cold weather but maybe someone else can chime in on how well that works. Just don't expect to go out on a cold day and have it fire right up like your new mini does.

I also suspect its going to be too light to get good snow traction, even with snow tires.

I know what you mean... It's quite hard living in the city (Chicago) to be able to "work" on the car should anything need repair. I have no mechanical experience either... Does anyone know a reputable mini mech. in the area? I suppose I should ask the Chicago Mini Club that though... The cold would be an issue - I do travel quite a bit with my work - and the entire month of February and part of March I'm gone.... Perhaps I'll be in contact with the seller. It seems like it's too much of a decision without a proper inspection, test drive, etc...

Any thoughts are always greatly appreciated! How much does a rust inhibitor and rust treatment cost Norm? (You seem to have extensive build knowledge - I'm jealous of that Mini transformation you made! It's pretty awesome!)

Since I don't have any knowledge in the Mini arena (only MINIs), what sort of actual costs and crises should be planned for?

Thanks again in advance!

Norm, you just keep having to show that restoration and make me so jealous... I have a great Classic, but that one you did is UNBELIEVABLE... Worth the years time... and MONEY!
