More Wheels & Tires
I'm brand new to this forum & have just purchased a '78 Mini.
Looks like tires are going to be at the top of my agenda, one flat & all dry rotted. Currently it has 1.65-70 x 10's on it.
Two questions: Tires; how much difference in cross section between the 1.45/80 x 10 & the 1.65/70 x 10 ??? Do they look similar mounted? Any source recommendations? 2) Love the rims, appear to be alloy of some variety with a painted black background & brushed finish accents. Are there some suggestions on refinishing these rims? Short of bead blasting, etc???
Why do we stay away from golf cart wheels & tires? Some of them are DOT approved...

I saw a guy strip an aluminum rim with aircraft stripper and a toothbrush. Took him a long time though. He was only doing one out of the set and didn't want to mess up the brushed part. I don't know if that stripper is safe on all metals though so be careful.
Not sure on the golf cart tires but I'd suspect you'd get poor tread life with them. I'm pretty sure the golf cart tires have a pretty thick sidewall compared to a car tire as well.

Do they look similar mounted? NO Esp if you have flares, the 145's will be lost in there.
Any source recommendations?

Sand/strip or blast & paint...& polish yourself or have them powdercoated
Are they Revo's,
Cosmics
or Mambas
Why do we stay away from golf cart wheels & tires? Some of them are DOT approved... A golf cart will never put the stress on its wheels the way a Mini can. A golf cart will not attain the speeds or forces. Why risk your safety?
