vtec & transmission questions

I was looking to do a 1275 A+ upgrade and for the price I was thinking of just saving a little longer and doing a vtec swap (ultimate goal anyway). I have done tons of research and reading and want some opinions.

Is the B series really worth the extra money? I know all about the stats and hp they make, but for the price I could buy a d16 and modd it all up. Also, does anyone know the weight difference between say a d16y8 and a b16a2 (or b18c). Only 33 hp and 3 lb/ft difference between them and the d16 is half the price and way easier to get.

Aslo, what rpms are you running on the highway at 75mph. The GSR, b16 trans etc show like 4500 at 76mph= screaming car on the highway. I was looking at the trans from the 96-00 civic ex hatch or 92-95 civic dx/lx for the d-series (4.05 fd ratio) and that would be about 3500 @ 72. The trans from a civic vx 92-95 would be 3000 @ 78; is this one too high geared. I am looking to build a driver, not a racer. Goal is about 130 whp. Thanks in advance

For what you describe, a D series sounds like the best fit. The final drive will change your rpm with 13's muchless 10's. You can get a new final drive cut for about 1200-1800 if need be. Ideal for the vtec set up is 3.47.

Is the B series really worth the extra money? ONLY YOU CAN ANSWER THAT.

THIRD paragraph sounds like you want to mix and match Dseries to Bseries parts.....it's exactly plug and play so follow Menos tip.
