Gigantic boot liner? Huh?

I ordered this from GBCarparts.com - it's very nicely made, but it's WAY too wide to fit in my boot - it overlaps the gas tank and the side of the boot by 8-10 inches or more. I thought that it would just drop onto my masonite boot board, but I wonder if its supposed to go UNDER the gas tank or something? Has anyone used this mat before and can snap a pic of it in place?

Thanks!

It's pretty tight under there. I guess I'll start "finessing" it.

It's on the left - standard single-tank configuration. It's got a big-*** plastic thingie hanging off the side though, that I can't for the life of me figure out what its for. I at first thought that it was the plastic goiter thingie that was causing the problem, but removing it would only give me a few additional inches, so I don't think that's it. I can take pics if you think they'd help...

My cheap OEM carpet goes under the gas tank. I don't even have a masonite board and it's a REALLY tight fit with the spare tire. I've also wondered what the plastic thing is hanging on the side of the tank.

The OEM carpet (upside down - oops)

That plastic thing looks like another mount for the spare tire?

Don't think so, but POSSIBLY... My spare is under the boot board, as usual. I might just remove that thing, since all it currently does is get in the way.

very strange little piece, def. looks like it was supposed to hold something, remove it and then sell it on ebay as a *RARE* part, haha!

It looks like it's just there to keep the gas tank from getting dented, honestly....
