The above link is for the D series swap which in my opinion would be your best bang for the buck and can be had through Mini Mania for less money.

My next car might well be a 2002 with an M3 swap. I've been gathering some info on them and love what I see.

If you do proceed on any of them, let us know where we can spy your progress.

Good luck!
I'd have to agree. I will likely NEVER get the money I have in mine out of it. It's still and likely always will be for sale.

That's not saying much as I am the "everything has a price" type. Hell if you handed me 30K I'd even sell you my Smart that I could not replace for at least 3 months. I'd sell my Cobra for 60K.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with. I would like to add that the Honda motor adds plenty weight. Looking back I wish I did a bike motor with a kit from Z-cars. Keep it light and fast with that.

There are PLENTY of choices. http://www.16vminiclub.com/ is a good place to see what others have done in the past.

I have thought about this as well and while I haven't taken any measurements yet, there are a few possible issues I see:

1. dimensions - the Tritec drivetrain is a bit tall... may actually be taller than the Honda set-up.

2. Weight - I forget if the Honda is a iron or aluminum block, but the tritec is definitely iron.

3. Mounting - the Tritec "hangs" from its mounts rather than sitting on them. Pop your bonnet and take a look - the main mounts are visible from above (the lower dog-bond mount is basically just a stabilizer). Now measure from the left mount to the right mount. Now think about the fact that the total width of a Mini is about 4 1/2 feet.

And what a nice look that Mini has too. Found the image on another forum and was loving it!
