I got one for you Norm (or anyone that restores) - Cosmetic External Hinges
I like the old-style externally-hinged door look on the Mk I Mini...
Could one, if they desired, install a set of these on an internally-hinged Mini door, and simply leave out the securing pin?
I know that if one wants to actually convert a newer Mini to a load-bearing, old, external style hinge, an A-pillar replacement is also required (to bear the additional weight), but what about simply mounting these externally with the pin taken out? That way the two halves could break apart when the door is opened and then mate back together when closed - the weight would still rest on the internal hinge, as normal.
Yes? No? If no, what would prevent this from working propely in your opinion?

grind off the pin extension, braze the a-panel hinge section closed, and just 3M tape the four hinge pieces to the door & a-panel...? shoemaker solution for a shoemaker project
