How do you do the year conversion?

Ok, I see all the mini's on ebay that are say a 73 "updated to 96 specs", I know in reality, that they really are a 96, so how do they get away with it, i.e. how do I do it? Looking to bring one back before I leave.

People switch vin plates- take a plate or car number from an old one and put it on the new- a process called re-vinning. It's not legal, and if discovered the car could be seized or forced back out of the country. Why not enjoy the hunt for an oldie in good condition? They're out there, and if you're in jolly old England you could probably locate something good for a decent price.

It's possible, and it happens. Are you willing to gamble the cost of your car? If you have the ability, as BRGPA suggests, I'd grab something that was 25+ years old. You can run the guantlet, but you may get caught. If ya do, they could take your car from you and you'd be out quite a bit 'o cash!
