Speeding cameras in the great state of ours

So it's not bad enough that in Chicago we actually name our potholes and some of them will soon challenge the Grand Canyon, the state is about to make motorists another gift.

Looks like driving I-88 into the metro area may just become preferable over I-90. Anyone know what type of speed measurement these devices use? Radar, Lidar, imbedded wires in the road surface?

State and local government budgets are really hurting. Speed cameras are found money.

I have yet to see convincing evidence that fining motorists for exceeding speed limits reduces accident occurances. Photo radar is illegal in Canada to my knowledge. I think they tried it out once briefly in Ontario and it was quite the debacle.

If you got a ticket... and you wanted to fight it in court, you have a right to question the prosecution. If the prosecution is a machine or a camera, how can they fulfill your legal rights as the defendant? A third party in charge of the "camera" would not be able to offer adequate testimony because they were not there when the speed was recorded.
