My tires have too much tread! (nearby HPDEs?)

and i have new control arm bushings that need wearing out

but seriously, i am going to be moving back to the reston, va area to work ~early may 09 and want to participate in as many autoX/trackday type events as i can afford too, my car has had too easy of a life, i mean it took me almost 35k miles to finish off the brake pads/rotors and control arm bushings

i looked on myautoevents.com but couldn't find any autoX events less than 2 hours away... am i doing it wrong? or is there a better way to find events that i don't need to leave @ 6am to get too? i don't want to miss out on events that are close to home!

i did see a couple summit point track days though

There are always FATT days at Summit Point, Mach V usually tries to get something together also.

For autoX

Yup. No sweat.

Mach V will usually post up if they have something going on. Have it be a track day or dyno day. Dan is good about that posting up and telling us what's going on.

Also look at the calendar of events here:

http://www.wdcr-scca.org/

The auto-x courses are larger at the SCCA events compared to the CDC ones.

UKCoopR - sorry for the off topic but I couldn't help noticing that 1.31 number in your signature...that's a pretty serious number I reckon, is that sort of lateral grip routine for you? If so what the heck are you running?

Impressed in Boston...

yeah 1.31Gs is a lot of fun (it was the gravity cavity at the dragon)

and as such that is a transient number (achieved mid-turn) not steady state like on a skid-pad (number would be lower in a steady state skid-pad style turn) and it was a standout number (why i took a picture etc)

as for usual numbers i most normally get range between 1.1-1.25Gs in turns in the dry and .85-1.0Gs in the wet

the setup that i have isn't really special:
  • H-Sport Springs
  • Rota Slipstreams 16x7 et40mm
  • Goodyear f1 gs-d3 (in 205/45R16 when i got those numbers, just switched to 205/50 to get some ride quality back lol)
  • some weight reduction (took out backseats, seatbelts, mounts etc no supercharger )
  • and 1/16" toe in on the front (still my daily driver so i like some highway stability) 0 toe on the rear
  • camber etc isn't adjustable for me
* the lowering springs got me a bit more negative camber than stock

i think most any mini with decent tires can pull over 1.1G transient just have to find a safe place to learn the car and once you learn that, then trust that it will come out the other side ok with your new corner entry speed, i have seen quite a few people leave grip "on the table" so to say. these minis really do have nutty good handling out the box

but then i am by no means an expert so that is all a big IMHO (in my humble opinion) i am just here to have fun and hang out with cool people

wow that post got long fast
sorry guys

i forgot to mention that 1.31G was with DSC ON
so it is not like i am pitching the car sideways to inflate numbers or anything like that my side of the yellow and everything

it only really gets upset if i get lazy and get back on the gas earlier than i should (yes you can slip the tires with only 115hp )
i only ever turn it off at autoXs etc where in tight corners i sometimes find it beneficial to slip the inside tire a bit

anyways.... lol

It was good seeing everyone on Saturday.

I Just got some photos in from Summit point this past Sunday. It was a good day! The rain held off considering it had been raining here for about a week straight and they were calling for rain over the weekend as well.

Only bad part is that my oil temp was hitting 275degs so I had to start backing off a bit and run a gear higher but when it cooled down just enough I was back on. I guess that's what happens when you run 5500-redline for as long as possible.

Here are a couple pics.
