I feel violated.
Someone hit my baby in a Half Price Books parking lot today. With me in it. Driving. Oh, and Phil was there, too.
An old lady backed her car into mine because she didn't see me. Then proceeded to yell at me because I "was in her blind spot". She and Phil exchanged some sort of yelling, but I didn't hear much because I didn't want to say anything without a cop of some sort there. So I started taking pictures.
Then I heard her talking to her daughter about how "some people like to try to get you" and that we "look like those kind of people". I couldn't take that. I told her I hadn't said anything to her yet and she just hit my car, and asked if she could please avoid judging me based on that (in not-so-polite terms). She told me "well what am I supposed to think when your spouse or boyfriend or whatever just starts yelling at me?" My response? "....You hit my car. And then yelled at me that I was in your blind spot."
From the picture of her car against mine, it almost looks like I could've backed into her. But from the scuff on my bumper you can see it's directional. It's from her hubcap, I think.
Once Phil gets in here I'm going to call the insurance company. He's outside talking to one of our neighbors who decided to stop and ask about MINIs because he wants to buy one or something, so it should be about 5 years.
Oh, and my absolute favorite part was when the cop was leaving and we were exchanging our information with the driver, and we asked to get her insurance information. The lady gets her card out, and her daughter says "Oh, it's okay mom, give it to me, I'll do it. I know you can't see it."
So much for making my car all nice and pretty for the Pub.

Sorry to hear this happened to you. As you know could have been a lot worse. Glad to see the police came. Why do people who can not drive insist on driving the biggest honking SUV they can afford. I just don't get it.
I think a lot of that may polish out, but since SUV lady is going to pay, looks like a nice repaint of the bumper.
SUV's love MINI's, mine was mounted by a Cayenne.
Hang in there, it will be fixed.

Man that stinks! Not sure what's worse, getting hit or being referred to as the kind of person who would stage an accident. I really don't understand people sometimes.
At any rate, I agree that it appears that the majority of the damage could be buffed out.
Hang in there. I am sure your baby will be just fine.

Guess I should have read more closely. Looks like it was a case of she didn't see you were in the lane. Probably a case of not turning to look over her shoulder. After hitting someone else's baby you have to insult them?
Pretty sure I made that joke at the scene at some point. Thanks for all the support, everyone. I love MINI people. It made me feel a lot better that someone cares, and knows it's not "just" a car to me.
I got the estimate from Progressive today. $407.10 including materials and labor. Apparently they have to take off the bumper and stuff and also replace the molding on the side that was damaged. And it will take a couple of days for them to do it.
So whenever fault is determined (hopefully soon, considering the other driver immediately started shouting that I was in her blind spot
) I can get that taken care of, and get a rental car out of it, too. He also threw in an estimate of $45.26 to go ahead and fix the pre-existing scratches on the bumper while he's doing stuff.
