Hey Moxie! We've been to Bowling Green, KY and to the Corvette museum-lol. It was fun! And Mammoth Caves isn't too far from there and that is a FUN trip! And don't knock Corvettes...there is '66 Stingray willed to Moose, though, we would rather have his dad than a car...

And BF, the pic of your car makes me think of a Bill Engval bit where he talks about putting skis on the top of his car and when someone asked him if he and the family were going skiing he said, nope, put those there in case we flip so that we can keep going...lol...you should put them on top of your car and tell someone that if they ask!

Mine went into the garage today, sad day too! 104 days to go, thank goodness 2009 is not leap year.

Otto only goes out in nice weather, no wet roads and never snow. Too many people out there who can barely drive well on good days. I'm from Connecticut originally and used to drive my Mustangs in 12 inches of snow without thinking about it, but out here too many people don't understand how to drive on slick roads. Same goes for my 2002 330Cci Buffy. She only has 5900 miles on her and has never seen a wet road. That's what I use the Suburban and truck for.
I know Otto and Buffy are both spoiled, but they get to go out and play on sunny days and we have a lot of those.

To enjoy the car of our lifetime, we have to make sacrifices, oh well.....not to mention it cost a fortune to buy it & we'd like to keep it nice for awhile.

Mine just went in the garage. Later today it will come out & be used no matter the weather. Well that is not true, if it hails I'm staying home.

I understand some folks want to keep their cars pristine. Thanks to folks like you there will be a supply of clean used MINI's for folks like me to buy when mine is all used up.

cool rack! is that a Mini one?

the only reason I park mine is, its a convertible and since I have another more practical snow car it makes sense to drive that and keep rufus clean and salt-free

Even YOU have a caveat, but actually, we are saving our pristine MINI for our grandson who will be 16 in March 2015. He can't wait to get it. By then it will only have 35K miles. Will make a nice "used" vehicle.

I hope your grandson is a better driver that I was back when I was 16. The thought of a 16 year young driver in a car that powerful gives me goose bumps. Make sure he gets some good driver training before gifting your rocket to him. Man what great grandparents you are.

Nath is almost 10 and not your usual child. Quite smart & actually listens to his parents. He will do just great as I am giving him his driving lessons when the time comes.

I'm sure he is a great child. Enjoy him while he is young. They grow up so darned fast as I'm sure you know.

here's your sign! I did have a nice gentleman stop me on the trip.

Stranger: Nice car. Who makes that?
Me: MINI
Stranger: Is it British?
Me: Yes it is.
Stranger: You get live what, 40 mpg in that?
Me: *nods* around that.
Stranger: Does it have a little handle so when you park you can carry it with you?
Me: *points at the o $#!+ handle* yes, but at 2500lbs I can't drag it very far. *here's your sign*

Yup, made by Mini-Fini who is located out of Columbus now. The cargo link and snow link both get a bit of use, and I like not having a rack permanently attached to the roof. Not the least expensive route to go, but quality all the way around.

Hey Moose! That's awesome! I go mountain biking at the Cave a lot. Been backpacking out there a couple times too. I don't hate the vettes, I've just developed a tolerance... lol. Everyone and their mom drives one. They're almost as popular as Me-too's (i.e., Mustangs). Let me know if you ever head down this way again!

Like Mowse, I have an FJ Cruiser for a winter ride. I'm sure my little Mini would have plenty of fun in the snow but I would hate to get crushed in it! Between a couple of snow storms I drove from Minneapolis to Wisconsin Dells and went a little too fast and caught up to next snow storm. It took 45 minutes to cover the last 7 miles. 35 cars were in ditches, a semi came across the median and knocked a large tree over on the other side of the highway. In these parts, the highway wasn't side by side so it had to be going pretty fast to make to the other side. In total it took 8 hours to get to the Dells. It only took 3.5 hours to get back but the kids were bored since there wasn't any action. My truck had a huge plate of ice 4 inches thick across the front when we got to the Dells. Looking back, I guess it was pretty amusing.

If I get in a weather related accident

in the FJ, no big deal. It's easily replacable. But I got my '08 MCSC/JCW this past June because that's it for the first generation. This car cannot be replaced.

I'll be keeping this car a long time. Unless the third generation Mini is really cool!

And that's not until 2012! And even then I'd wait til the "factory" JCW comes out. So that's probably 2014!

Wow! I'll nearly be 40!!!

Just drove in six inches of snow and no problem even though I need new tires. Miles and minor stone dings - no problem. I'd rather drive it and have fun (mines a 2008 with 20,000 miles). I guess the more I drive it the sooner I get another one! I'm 6'5 and my son is 6'5. He sits in the back seat behind my wife as she moves the seat up, my daughter sits behind me. Family motoring at its best.......

Mine's in the garage for the first time and my Jeep does the snow now. My snows are for sale if anyone is interested. 4 Bridgestone Blizzaks 195-55R 16 w/o wheels. Paid $400 & will let them go for $200. Makes a great handling car even better in the winter.
