Any other classic Mini owners in the Klub?

Mark and I are picking up a 1980 Mini 1000 in Kansas City this Saturday (if the weather isn't terrible), and we were wondering if there were any other AMOK members who had classics? This is going to be the first ever "classic" car either of us have owned, and there are bound to be mechanical issues in the future, so anyone experienced in working with these little Brits would be dandy to communicate with.

If all goes well on the drive back down from KC, we'll try to bring it to the meeting Sunday.

Forgot to ask, if anyone knows of a good, reasonable paint shop we'd be very appreciative. I wouldn't imagine these little cars need that much in the way of paint quantity, but I've been getting quotes of anywhere from $1500-3500 from local yokal mechanics. Of course, they haven't seen the car yet, so that may change some things, but surely there are some cheaper options.

Hoping the weather holds out. They're calling for a possibility of light freezing rain, which could put a real damper (pun intended) on plans to drive a long distance. Maybe luck will be on our side. We'll take my car up there and we'll alternate driving the MINI and the Mini on the way back. I can't wait to see what a RHD feels like. If everything feels nice and sturdy on the way down, we'll bring it and one of the MINIs to the meeting Sunday, though I don't think the Mini will be accompanying us on the romp! It's supposed to be spirited, but I doubt it could keep up with our modern beasts.

If you want a top notch paint job, see Kevin Strayhorn at Custom Auto Service. They are approved to do highline repair work on Jags and BMWs. They did a repair on my 3-series that was ultra-high quality.

Here are a few pictures the seller sent me. Nothing too spectacular on the outside right now, but I think it'll look nice in a dark blue with silver roof with black wheel arches and, eventually, new Minilite wheels.

And a shot of the interior:

That is really great. And yes, there is another mini in the group. I'll let her know we have another classic in the group.

I think Fast Fritz who lives in Dardanelle has a classic Mini. He has posted on the forum before. Maybe you can get in touch with him somehow.

I actually sent Fritz an e-mail asking if we could stop by and see his. He hasn't yet written back. He has a '59, so it'll be a bit different body and engine type.

as far as painters in your area I would suggest the robinson brothers in dover. they may take a while but I can gaurantee good quality work(they painted my dads friends 1 of a kind corvette, and it was the cover car for corvette magazine in january of 2007). as far as price goes you'll have to talk to them.

Ijust heard the latest weather report on the radio coming home from work. It said the rain would be gone by Sunday AM. Just cloudy. Hope so. I want to see that new(old) Mini of yours.

OMG, you are CRAZY, lol.. that is so cute! The only problem is, when you say a 1980 is a 'classic' .. makes me realize how 'mature' and wise I have become. 1980?? geez..
