AC Compressor?
AC Compressor?
My 2003 MCS has an AC compressor that just turned in its resignation. I'm hoping that one of you track junkies may have stripped your race MINI of the compressor and be willling to sell it.
If so let me know ASAP. It's August in south Florida and I'm not motoring happily. I know it's a long shot but $600 plus labor when you're 2500 miles out of warranty hurts.

Yea mine just went out at 30K. I think it may be going out again as it is making some sort of odd noise. Have an appt on the 6th. I thought it was odd, but I have heard that they go out early.
Good Luck
Good Luck
IMPORTANT: replace the dryer when you replace the AC compressor!
My AC compressor was replaced under warranty (at 49K miles), but the dryer was not. Less than one year later, the compressor went out again. The dryer had busted, putting pellets all over the AC system. Cost to fix by the dealer, even with the compressor covered under warranty, was >$1800 - and that's including a 25% "good will" discount. I went to a tuner shop and got it done for about $1000. I asked for only the compressor to be replaced by the dealer, since they had said it was under warranty, so that saved on the cost. They left the hookups disconnected and did not put refrigerant in the system, as I'd requested, so the tuner shop could do the rest. Fortunately they could flush the system and replace only some components (like the expansion valve and evaporator coil).
To this day, I still don't know why the dryer was not replaced at the first AC repair. I was told by the dealer that they were not authorized by MINIUSA to replace the dryer, only the compressor. Every mechanic I've told that - even one at the dealership, said something to the tune of "WTF?!"

Thanks NAM!
Just a quick thanks to everyone on this site. Since my purchase in 03 the information regarding modifications has been invaluable. Now you've saved me almost $500.
When I inquired about a used or "take-off" AC Compressor I thougt it was along shot. The part is over $600 from the dealer. I received multiple PM's, and bought one sight unseen for $175 from a member in Canada. It was installed today, and was just as promised.
Sending $175 to Canada to someone you've never even spoke with, much less met can be risky and illadvised. I trusted our members and all is well. Now NAM not only gives me the information necessary to make an informed decision, it put almost $500 in my pocket.
Thanks friends - motor on!
Special thanks to my new best friend in Canada. I wasn't sure if you wanted your name mentioned, so I took no liberties. Let me know if you're in south Florida - I owe you a couple beers - eh?

Glad to hear it worked fine for you!
A reputation is worth more than $175. That`s why I gave you the warranty !
BTW, I`d be glad to cash-in, but you don`t owe me anything; you already paid once!

As near as I can figure mine is going soon also (54000 miles 04 JCW). Could you hear it grumbling and complaining before it broke?
