Invite Top Gear to MOTD 2010?
I'd like to see what you NAMers think about doing a mass e-mailing to the blokes at Top Gear, inviting them to drive the Tail of the Dragon in 2010. In MINIs of course.
I sent an e-mail to them in January or February prior to MOTD 2009, but got no response. I did this in response to a remark made by Jeremy Clarkson about the U.S. not having any decent driving roads.
I'm thinking if we get a concerted effort from a bunch of the MINI community and start doing so now, maybe, just maybe we might get them to come over here to drive the Dragon.

Here is what I placed on the contact site form:
"Won't you come join us at the Dragon"
I would like to invite the Top Gear gang to come and participate in the largest annual gathering of MINIs and Minis in the U.S.
In 2010 this will be the 8th annual MINIs on the Dragon. http://www.minisonthedragon.info/index.html
It will be held April 28 to May 2, 2010. I think you will find this a challenging road to drive; 11.6 miles with 318 turns in a scenic mountain region.
Please feel free to contact myself or the event organizer Barry Patascher (cabin@tampabay.rr.com)
Thank You in advance,
Hal Corum
Please feel free to use any or all of the above message. If you want to add more please do so.
Thanks in advance

LOL.. Top Gear sets the bar in the UK and of course here in the US. I know when they came over a few years ago to Drive in Cheap cars, and they crossed the perceived line on Race/ Religion/ Sexuality.. the "good Ole boys in NC " STONED THEM!! At the end of the show.. Jeromy said ".... Dont go to the US!!"
BBC might be persuaded to allow them over again.. just as good will ?? But I should think that the number 1 comedy/auto show in the UK will take a lot more than just a few asking.
And you know.. Jeromy will condem.. Hammond will crash..James will still be there after the 3 days are over , making the 3rd turn!! It would be cool to see what " The Stig" could do on the Dragon.. yes??
Just me thoughts....

Ha, just just laugh at how many cops are on the Dragon and how you can't exploit the Mini's strengths.
For those that haven't been up there since the last Dragon, TN has installed several pull-offs for the police, and increased it's presence greatly since last year, including motorcycle cops. Must be working since we've had several deaths in the last few months

Done... especially after the last episode where they talk about how Americans (in reference to Clarkson's Ford GT) don't know anything about great driving roads. Now that may be true about American's who designed or drive Ford GT's but as for the rest of us....
Dragon
The dragon is really a nice road but last year there were too many Leo's patrolling it costs a lot of dough for them to make a production. I am sure they will stick with the roads in Wales and Scotland which are ten times better than the dragon >> my 2 cents
Haha i think all 500+ MINI owners would crash and burn their transportation for the way home... Or we might just have to kill them on the spot lol
