Rustic Cabin Stories

Here's the place to tell your stories of staying in "rustic" cabins at Fontana for those of us who are doing it for the first time.

We had a Dogwood a few years ago. There were 4 of us and it worked out fine. Our only issue was ants but all the cabins have them so bring the spray. I bought and read the book on the history of Fontana and from what I gather the remaining "rustic" cabins are from the 40s when the village was built. These cabins were for the foremen and supervisors, the worker bees had A6 prefabs which I think are all gone.

Our rustic cabin this past year was full of mold from leaky faucets, dirty rug with huge stain& it stunk, bathroom was dirty, walls all needed painting (someone had stolen, I guess, a picture & you could see where it had been), the couch was so old even if someone tried to sleep on it they would have been on the floor & who knows what was lurking in THAT mattress. Our mattress was thin with springs poking thru. At least the sheets were clean. And,yes, there were ants & spiders but that was probably because the front screen door was punched out. The refrigerator had to be pulled away from the wall to open the door. It was horrible So good luck I've stayed in some cheap Motel 6s & such & have NEVER encountered such filth & disrepair. And at $100 a night, Fontana should be ashamed.

I have been down there SEVERAL times, never the same cabin (however never stayed at Fontana). I always get a privately owned cabin and have always LOVED my stay!

Can't wait to tour the Smoky Mountains on 4 wheels! That will be different!

Here's a link to my cabin story from last year titled "If this cabin's a rockin'..." It was quite memorable.
