When I was volunteering we pulled up this thread on the TV to show people and make sure they were careful while driving. I think it was a very good reminder to not overdo it out there.

I am glad everyone walked away without any problems

BigDaddy - it was nice to meet you - sorry it was under unfortunate circumstances. I'm sure you'll get the car fixed and sorted fairly quickly. Let us know how the repairs come out.

Show her the article in Alliance Mag. about NANO. Ragtop and skidded to a stop.

Big Daddy - while the "incident" may be regrettable, you showed a great attitude about the whole thing by sticking around and not running and hiding. More than a few people gave a Dragon run a second thought upon seeing your poor car - and this likely contributed to some additional caution as well...

Hey everybody, thanks once again for all of your kind words and encouragement. Yes, we had quite the procession down to the Tree of Shame on Friday. Tori put a piece of Jenna on the tree (compliments of a bridesmaid mishap) and I hung the the right wheel liner (with one big, blue Rogue MINI eye on it), the piece that was sitting in the car while it was "on display" in front of the Detroit Tuned tent. We finally got back to Detroit around 1:00 PM today. The car was picked up at 2:30 and we took it to the collision shop in Windsor. They will start stripping it down tomorrow to see what needs to be done. Now we wait...

BTW, if people have pics of any part of the incident, crash scene, static display, Tree of Shame ceremony, etc., please feel free to add them to this thread. Thanks,

BD

Sad news..my insurance company has "totalled" my car. They say that repairs will cost over $17,000 and the value of the vehicle is only $18,500. I could buy it back for $5K but they will not insure it.

Big D - I'm extremely sorry about your loss.
Maybe this is the start of great new opportunities for a new project -- as it was for ImagoX

Aw man, sorry to hear that BD. Stacey and I really feel for you.

I've found the best way to get over it is to (drink some Brewswap beer and) start playing around on the configurator.

Oh and don't forget to check with your insurance company to see if you can strip your mods off the car! Geico let me do it so long as I could replace it with stock stuff.

Oh, Don, I'm so sorry about your MINI I'll never forget talking to you the morning after & how happy I was that you were ok.

You can still get a supercharged cabrio Have fun shopping for that new MINI or maybe a slightly used one with low mileage.

So sorry, BigD... Curious what their list of "fixes" includes for that cost... surprising it's so much, given that it was drivable...

Maybe get a new MINI. Buy back Mo and strip her out for parts to fix up Mo II. The good parts left on Mo are def worth over 5K. Just my thoughts...

wow that's crazy! 17k?! I'm sorry about that BD.... I am really surprised. I wish you lived closer, I would insure it for you!

oh and also I echo what Molly said... the parts alone are worth the 5k....

Big D: Seriously, you can buy it back and part it out, or you can buy it back and make a track toy (if the mechanical bits are all reasonably OK). What's the bid repair that costs the most? Perhaps throwing the thing on a chassis jig and straightening it out, then replacing the windshield (along with the requisite bending), would make you (or someone else) a really nice track toy!

Glad you're OK - that's what counts.

If you buy it back, think of all those mods or extra parts...

Also - remember - that number the insurance company give syou as far as "what your car is worth" is NEGOTIABLE. Find out what comparable iused Minis are seling for in your area and repeat these words back to the insurance guys until they cave: "I'm sorry, that is not acceptable".

Good luck - hope to see you in a Mini at MOTD next year!

Hey BD, I'm sorry to hear they totaled your mini. I know the feeling b/c I totaled my 05 about a year ago. I was at the Sunshine mini's party about 3 cabins up from you when I heard about the wreck and I could have sworn you were just parked there b/c I walked by your mini on the way to the cabin. I was sad to see the aftermath up close a couple of days later. But i'm really glad y'all are safe! Can't wait to see the next mini project. Here are some pics I took.

It's hard to believe that's ^ a "totalled MINI".

AND it does seem that there are more than $5k in parts on there -- interior, wheels, exhaust, everything under the hood . . .

So sorry, BD! The parts on that car are easily worth over $5K, or it would make a great track car. I find it hard to believe it's totaled, too, but if I correctly recall from my sad experience with the Miata, it's considered totaled if the repair cost is greater than 50% of the estimated value.
