Hey! As we get closer (and closer) to the event just a quick reminder this is for geocachers of all level (even complete newbies who have never looked for a cache, but are interested in finding out more). Since everyone's GPSr will be a little different please make sure that you know how to enter coordinates in your GPS before the event. Mrs. Zoom suggested that everyone practice with the event coordinates (she's so clever). We are putting together a packet (basics, area caches, etc.) and will have some paper copies available for those who need it (and a URL for future reference). I'm getting some door prizes together and a special cache just for MOTD. Less than a week away and a 40% chance of sunshine!

I'm loading the 500 closest to Fontana in today, so hopefully no new ones pop up before Saturday!

Fantastic! My wife is planning out our route with cache stops along the way. I have the log ready for the event and hopefully will be able to hand it off to someone local so it can become an MOTD Cache! Remember, if you have any coins, or items for people to discover, Travel Bugs that need a bump, bring them along. I just put the TB on Tink so she's ready to be discovered! When will Saturday get here (I'm willing to settle for Wednesday about 4:30 P.M.)?

We're soooo excited! I uploaded all the surrounding caches and we plan on doing them on Thursday as that is our "down day" for hanging around Fontana.

Ohhhhhhh, I can't wait!!!!

That's the first part of our travel day... Tink has a small bladder so we need to stop frequently (allowing us to cache more!) and I have this crazy thing called work. We should be arriving sometime Thursday and be ready to go! Glad to hear everyone's excited, the more the merrier!

Just got home from MOTD '08, had a great time!

First, a big THANK YOU to Professor and Mrs Zoom for starting the event, as well as to everyone who helped get us started!

We found jimmyd1's Mini Collector, in our 1st successful cache found, thanks to help from you guys. We're now minimel and roadodendron on geocaching.com, where I've logged the find. It's staying here in SC with us for a while to collect Minis, the plan is that we'll leave it in a different place in NC next time we are up there for hiking/geocaching.

Thanks again to everyone who attended, it was great to meet everyone. Sue and I have been caching our way home (we are presently just North of Knoxville). As we found caches around Fontana it was great to see so many familiar names We can't wait to do this again next year (and rent a boat). Just a quick reminder to go back to geocaching.com and log your attendance at the event, that way you get another smiley!

Woo Hoo! or should that be "oh no, I've created a monster"
Even if you didn't register you can still get the smiley for attending.
There is a really active group on the westside of Indy and the "girls in geocaching" group which Sue's involved in. The big Midwest event (a geocaching MOTD) is in August in Kendallville, IN Hope to see some familiar faces there.

It was great seeing everyone out for the Caching event and meeting so many new people! I was pleasantly suprised to see so many people there! Please feel free to add me to your friends list on Geocaching.com (I'm COOP 310 over there).

Thanks ProfessorZoom for putting on the event and hopefully we can do it again next year! Maybe even find a way to get out to the PeterPan cache

BTW, did anyone end up finding "hole10" or the "hilton" cache?

This was a blast, and I am so glad the weather turned out great for the afternoon of caching. Thanks to Mr and Mrs Zoom for the refreshments and Cache Tags/prizes. A few quick thoughts:
  • The Hilton GC18FJB was not there
  • Hole 10 GC1996X was not there (at least we could not find it). We did however find a 'smoking' accessory hidden where the cache should be
  • Fontana Valley GC18XCG was found and in a cool spot
  • Jessie Gunter GC11GKV was found
  • Welcome to Graham County #2 GC196GB we could not find for the life of us. If anyone did find it, please explain it as we spent over an hour looking for it
  • One Degree of Separation GCXNQ9 was not there. We spent a good 2hrs looking for it in the middle of the woods with a ton of poison ivy. It should be removed from GC.com as it goes too far into vegetation. We did find a turtle shell, which we though was the cache at first until we opened the shell up

I found that one the first place that I looked. If you need a hint, or would just like to know where it was for sanity's sake, then PM me.

Make sure that you log the ones that you couldn't find as DNF on geocaching.com so that the owners can go out and see if they are still there.

Dragon Pathtags

Just wondering if there are any of the Pathtags left over or available from this event? I'm a beginning cacher (almost 200 finds) and pathtagger (7 in my collection). Was wondering if I could buy an extra 1 or 2?

Thanks

I desperately wanted to go to the Dragon

Left over Pathtags?

I was at the dragon but was unable to get to the Geocaching Meet and Greet. The Ice Cream run started late because of the HUGE amount of people for the group photo.

Were there any Pattags left I could buy?

Just wondering?

Sorry... All pathtags that were not sold were distributed throughout caches in the area. If you want a pathtag you'll need to hunt down the caches that we visited. We will try this again next year so there will be another pathtag next year.

We signed up for event and were with the BRG MCS that overheated on the road to the group photo. We did not have our gps with us and ended up helping drive an extra person around. After getting the sick mini back to the village and eating lunch we gave up on our plans and visted the Fontana Dam only to figure out that it was close to where the GEO meet and Greet was. Once we saw the travel bug on the mini we knew we had accidently stumbled across the event. We came late, got to learn more about geocaching and find out that we were not the only neewbies. Great people, great time. Hope to be there next year. thanks Sue we got close to the cabin but failed to find the micro cache, no gps and had to get back for dinner.

Looks like the poison ivy from One Degree of Separation GCXNQ9 has popped up on my legs. I consider it a small battle scar for some fun caching

Buji Wash the geocachers best friend. Next time I'll make sure to bring some for the group.

As always you find some you don't find some... We actually have a wonderful cache in Indiana that you have to get 100 DNF's to qualify for, so even in failure there is victory.

I have posted some of the photos I took while getting the Village or Dam cache on my flickr and the motd group. Photography is a great muggle deterrent, most people focus on the photographer, not the person getting the cache. Oh did anyone get a picture of the sign at Meet & Greet? I completely forgot to get a shot of that (or any pictures from the meet & greet)

Yay! Thanks for the photo! My wife's camera ended up having a smudge on the lens so all of my MOTD photos are out of focus in the lower right hand corner.
