Hello everybody! I'll be arriving at the Fontana campground Thursday morning! I camped there during MOTD 2, 3, and 4 and had a great time. Hopefully it won't be too crowded there this year. It's quite a large place though, so I'm not too worried.

There should be about 2-4 people camping with me. And I believe a couple other people from the Mid-Ohio Motoring Club, NAMer Wellzy and his wife Reboobie, will also be arriving Thursday or Friday and will be camping, so I'm going to try to save them a small spot.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting and hanging out with everyone and keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't rain much that weekend.

hey all,

change of plans and now I'm looking to camp in lieu of the cabin I have reserved. I'm interested in sharing a spot w/ somebody if at all possible.. I can pay cash towards the campsite fee or in beer if you prefer! I'll be there April 26 some time, so if anybody is planning on arriving a bit early, that would be amazing!

After getting a hunch, I took a chance and called Fontana, and as good luck on my side would have it, they had one out of three sites left. A few days later I recieved my reservation number and confirmation for one campsite.

CSC.RCC will be sharing with me but the more the better. If the site is big enough, we can split the cost and make it even cheaper. Or if paying in beer, make the dragon tasty-er

So for those of you looking to get a confirmed site to stay, PM me or post if your interested. Not sure how big the site is, but as long as there is patchy grass, your more than welcome to steak your claim for some bucks or beers.

Arriving Wednesday late afternoon and staying through Sunday...

It's a decent sized area.

HELP!!!!!!!!!

Well, luck has finally decided to step over on my side and I now am able to attend. Does anybody happen to have any room at their site for an extra Cooper and tent? Sorry, with the way the military is now, I wasn't sure I'd be able to come this year. I would help foot the bill. Thanks in advance.

I have a two bedroom, azealea style cabin in the Fontana village. The cost for it is $550 from Thursday, May 1 to Sunday, May 4. I put down a $167.20 deposit that is non-refundable. I am not able to go this year because my daughter is expecting in that immediate time frame.
Anyone wishing to go, and stay in the village need only contact me at ccalohan@yahoo.com and make the necessary arrangements to cover the deposit and assume the rental contract, and it is yours. Breaks my heart as I had a most bodaciously good time last year.
If I cannot get the deposit, I will attend anyway and my daughter will just have to hold that boy another week...okay, so it is wishful thinking, but on that note, anyone (non-smokers only, non hard-core partyers) wishing to share the cabin please contact me ASAP as I will have to register by the 7th.

I should have space available- just me and my 3-person tent (and my MINI of course). PM me if you're interested. I'm only at Fontana on Thursday and Friday nights however.

So... do you pack up everything each day? How does that work? Any worries about security?

I just put all of my 'stuff' inside the tent.

Well, not all of it. I left a good bit of it under the covered picnic table.

No issues.

Looks like eager2own can't make it as work is getting in the way of the important things to do in life. Bummer.

So if anyone out there is still looking for a camping spot, I'm coming in late Thursday and departing Saturday if anyone needs room.

My brother had plans to come out from California to join me again this year doing the macho male bonding thing that brothers do. He planned this even though his wife was pregnant and due to deliver very close to Dragon time. He just cancelled his plans because she just had a little boy and now he just can't bring himself to leave her and his new son. Funny thing is I kept telling them over the last few months that he wouldn't want to leave them right after the baby was born and they both said no that will never happen Maybe him and his son will join me next year!

Once again we had a great time camping this year. Great to meet a few new people and catch up with some old acquantances.

too bad about the cop coming and telling us we were making too much noise (at 11 pm on a Saturday night, laughing around a campfire!) and we don't know who managed to complain anyway. He may have just been harassing us for the heck of it, because most of the mini owners were still up and the one guy who was a construction worker for on the dam was still up.

Next time, come over and ask us nicely, ok?

As of now we plan to be back next year and do the same thing again. Hope to see some of you back as well.

I stayed at the campground as well and thought it was pretty tame. I really didn't notice much noise but my site was near the entrance. I thought everyone was very nice and I would stay there again. I just wish my tent didn't spring a leak !!

We enjoyed camping this year. It wasn't as bad as I thought dragging the teardrop up there. We met some awesome people. Hefro was across from us, and it was a pleasure to get to know him, his wife and others. My husband is still happily eating soapy chocolate chip cookies lol. I am sorry I didn't get to see him before we left! I didn't know the cops were there Saturday.

I think it was just them harrassing you....

they came through the village too, but didn't say much about the noise.. but did pull a lot of ppl over after the midnight run...

harassed one of our cabin mates about his driving lights, that are legal.. said that they weren't.. unless there is a law in NC that I am unaware of...

Ruffcat and gang, and yumyumdriver!

Y'all made camping so enjoyable and MOTD 2008 memorable. Rhiannon and I are already counting down the days 'till next year, or sometime we can meet up again before then.

I had fun camping, but I'm sort of a loner, so hopefully I didn't offend anybody by not hanging out. I hate just showing up to someone's site. I did on the other hand enjoy meeting everybody. This was my second year camping, and will most certaintly do it again next yera, unless I can finally convince my wife to come. Regardless, next year I'm bring my daughter.

To everyone camping this year it was such a pleasure meeting each of you, I had a blast but was sorry I had to leave early! And about our fine cop friend, I find it hard to believe anyone from our great group of MINI/Mini camping people would complain. I think it was more of a case of of a cop hidding from the Midnight on the Dragon folks because he didn't have bonnet stripes and he tried to take refuge by driving into the campground with his un-MINI-fied patrol car. I personal think that after he hit one of the many massive pot holes entering the campground because he didn't have massive rally lights it scared him so bad that he tried to jump from his moving patrol car to save his sorry life, all the while screaming like a little school girl, he tripped and his car rolled over his tiny Manhood, leaving his man ego deflated. Now this poor MINI less patrolman with tread tracks across his lower extrimities and made from a HE to a SHE, was madder than a rattlesnake with a head cold while he limped his way past your campsite.
Now who's in for next year
Ocean
