Installing Roar Pedal or equivalent...

Hi new Gen Mini owners....

I have been seriously considering trying a Roar Pedal, or an equivalent throttle response controller, to remove the throttle lag in my 2025 F66.

These are generally very simple installs, and from everything I am seeing online, do a fantastic job.

Only issue I was concerned about is setting a fault code when unplugging the original sensor at the pedal. This occurs if the ECU is 'active' during installation.

I contacted Roar Pedal about this...

Here is my question and their response....

I am very interested in a Roar Pedal for my new 2025 F66 4th generation Mini Cooper S.
Love this little 'go kart', but it does have some throttle lag which I think a roar pedal will resolve.
However, I am concerned about the ECU setting a fault code during installation.
This new gen Mini is all digital... no key necessary to open a door, start the car, etc.
Not sure how I can power down the ECU... if I open the door, car not started, all accessories power up and car goes to ready mode.
Only thing that might work is to disconnect the battery, which I am hesitant to do. Not sure what can of worms this might open if I disconnect the battery for 15 or more minutes.
I had a Lotus that had to have a VIN reset from the dealer to clear a fault code if the battery was disconnected for a period of time.
Any ideas?

Hey Paul,

Thank you for your detailed question.

The key point is: The Roar Pedal itself will not cause a permanent fault code. The issue you're concerned about occurs only if the car's ECU is active when the original sensor is unplugged during installation.

Here is the proven method to prevent any temporary codes on your 2025 Mini:

Fully Power Down the ECU: After turning the car off, the ECU can remain active for a short time. To ensure it's fully asleep, the most effective method is to disconnect the negative terminal of your car battery for 15-30 minutes before you begin the installation. While this may reset some memory settings (like radio presets), it will not cause any permanent issues or require a dealer visit. This is the safest way to guarantee the ECU does not detect the sensor being unplugged.

If a Code Still Appears: If a code is triggered (for instance, if the door was opened and the system woke up), please don't worry. This is a temporary "communication error" from the brief disconnection. The code and any warning light will clear automatically after you drive the car normally for a day or two, once the ECU verifies the sensor is working correctly.

The Roar Pedal is a passive signal interpreter. It does not modify your ECU and is completely safe for your vehicle's warranty. We are confident it will resolve the throttle lag you're experiencing and make your 'go kart' even more responsive.

Okay... while I am not 100% optimistic about having to disconnect the battery for 15+ minutes, I am going to give it a try and order one of these.

Will let you know when I get this ordered and installed....
