I still think it's something I need to do in this lifetime, if just to say "I did that".

I would imagine the Porsche readers have probably never heard of MOTD but I do know other marquees go there on different days of the year.

I was just interested in opinions on the road itself. Seems like he liked the surrounding roads better?
I am not sure if you are referring to readers or owners but you can search rennlist.com and see Porsche owners have tried to organize runs in the past. I am not sure how successful they were at organizing but owners are aware of the Dragon.

I ran the Dragon last week (8/16 cars and trucks, page 2 on killboy.com) on my way to Asheville, NC and had a blast! Running in mid-week, there was little traffic and I actually laughed out loud half way through the 11 miles. It was basically the bottom of 2nd gear to the top of 2nd gear with a screaming SC and bellowing magnaflow exhaust. Over rated? I guess that depends on what you are looking for. I ran the Dragon as a detour to Interstate driving and will run it again anytime I'm traveling through the area.

Heck, even Schumi is reported to run the Dragon...on his motorcycle, though! And yes, weekends are madness. Early morning runs and mid-week runs are fantastic! You can get a clean run (no one in front or behind you) if you get on the road early enough.

I have driven most of the roads in NorCal's coastal region, and they do not have the same WOW factor that the Dragon does. They are fantastic in their own right, but there must be a reason that I (from Los Angeles) manage to have gone to the Dragon three times a year since 2003.

I guess I didn't clarify this enough.

Yes, I am sure Porsche owners know of "the dragon". I've read many reference to it in various forums. In my last post someone was talking about the MOTD "event". I meant that Porsche owners probably know nothing of MOTD ... why would they? I am trying to separate the "road" from the "MINI event".

I do see the Elise owners get it together.

I've also read various reviews of people taking their Caymans out there too.

Edge ... I had every intention to go this year (as you must be aware) but family matters intervened.

Clo ... I don't know why you just don't pitch a tent by the bears Its got to be cheaper than hotels!

How DO you get so much vacation time Must be the "artistic" touch

I have never had so much fun in my entire life. As I took the first couple of turns, I told my husband this is better than **x!!! My heart was thumping like crazy and I was so focused on the road I didn't talk the rest of the way. I can't wait to do it again!!

It's fun to drive but I'm not sure I would go that far.

I regret making this post. My comment was made to him in the thrill of the moment and he took no offense. I love my husband more than my MINI.

Well for a true driving experience, how about combining both on the dragon.

The Dragon Club?

And what does the grille badge for that club look like?

Good One Catbat!!! .... Yeah, isn't that what everyone does at MOTD? Go drive until they are dizzy and then hit the hotel?

Didn't mean to make things uncomfortable - undoubtedly your husband is a lucky man to have a loving wife who also appreciates things like driving awesome cars on amazing roads!

Clearly you still have your priorities straight.

Not when they are there with their brother instead of their SO. I was willing to go only so far in embracing local mountain culture.

Thanks. I've never had so much fun as I am with this amazing car we all love so much. Sometimes I guess I get a little too "passionate" in sharing and then wonder, "Should I have said that?"

Chows, your thread has now been hijacked by S-E-X. You may never find out if the Dragon is over-rated but you may find it has become X-rated.

I knew exactly what you meant, Patti! I once had the amazing "pleasure" of riding with Ryephile in his highly-modded Mr. Motor 2 from Fontana Village to Deal's Gap. It was literally hair-raising, and when I leaped out of his MINI, I shrieked, "that was better than sex! I need a smoke!" And then I declined to run the Dragon with him! lol:
