Aww come on guys, call him out. It was G MINI. I was not passed by another car all weekend, however I did slow and wave 2 bikers past on Saturday.

I will tell you this, had G MINI passed me on the Dragon, it would have been the last time he passed anybody on the Dragon. I would have shown up at his cabin later with LEOs in tow. I would have certainly testified against him, even if it meant having to drive 600+ miles to do it.

Yes, that was him. I knew it was him already, he's easy to identify. No shortage of witnesses of his blatant stupidity, including me. I hate to EVER wish for a totalled MINI, but if anyone deserves it, he does. If it happened, and nobody was physically hurt (including him), I wouldn't be shedding a tear.

I'm sure someone caught him on video, so law enforcement is not a far fetched idea at ALL.

YES thats the PASS ***, Thanks so much for shedding light on this matter .

It was my son that was nearly wrecked by this person , missed him by a car and a half length .My blood pressure keeps going through the roof with anger when I think that this PASS *** could have taken away part of my family .
Thank goodness this time nothing happened ,but its going to, take that to the bank .

I have a few things to say.

First of all, for those unfamiliar with night-driving on 129 and 28, we customarily not only use our high beams, but our rally lights, to discourage deer and other animals from running into the highway and striking us, and to have the optimum view of the very twisty road ahead. Just tip up your rearview mirrors and turn down the sideviews, to keep from being blinded.

Lance, I thought your classic's headlights weren't working....if so, then were you actually out driving after dark?

I really prefer that there be no "Thread of Shame." Shaming rarely works on offenders. Being thrown into jail may, though.

Agreed, when i was driving up to the Dragon on 28 on Friday night around 9pm and then onto the Dragon many people were using their highbeams but would imediately turn them off when they came into your view. Some would even flash them while there were around the corner to warn of an oncoming car. I never flashed anybody from behind, just did the same to warn people i was coming around the corner.

That is definatly the caveman that wins the WRECKLESS driver award for the weekend. I remember distinctly what this douche looked like! Not too tall, short dark hair, plain short sleeve t-shirt, jeans, and not too current on his dental hygeine!

As Cabmeister (My Dad) stated above, I was not too happy with "Driver X" either. Aside from speeding around like he was Phil Wicks around that mountain, he also passed (thats right I said passed!) another MINI on the dragon putting him right in the direct oncoming path of me and my wife in my car! Literally inches away and we would have been dead. Apparently I am not the only person who was not pleased with this fellow, but I hope in this instance of his extremely reckless driving was the worst that anyone had to endure this year! If you somehow read this post or this gets around to you "driver X", I suggest you not make your way to the Dragon in 2007, or you might end up running into some very unhappy motorers! Other than that cheers to you all and I will see you next year for my third Dragon!

I was going to mention that, but it seems the moderators are with the rest on this one so my posts are limited to encouraging wise safe decsions.

Priceless

I just beg people not to turn this into what supposedly happened with that one small-time reporter who made fun of the MINIs.

Yes, this guy is a tool for the dangerous way he drives and the lives he put in danger, but hopefully no one will harrass him distastefully. (note: I did NOT say that we SHOULDN'T harrass him).

edit...

I didn't witness his bad driving, but I definitely pointed and laughed at his dumb-looking MINI on multiple occasions.

I made a total of 2 runs on the Dragon the entire time I was there....when we came into town and when we left.

I do not like the roads there and I am extremely slow when I do drive on them (usually right at the speed limit). Luckily there were no cars/bikes behind me either time this year. I have however in the past had people (even in MINIs) ride on my bumper. Do these tailgaters (or maybe they think they are drafting) not realize that only makes you more nervous and go slower? I do pull over when there is a safe place to do so. As has been said, take that kind of driving to the track!

As for the "pass ***" (that is good, I like that) I didn't see him on the Dragon but if his driving on the road in front of our cabin is any indication I can only be glad he did not cause an accident!

Although I have some moderator rights in this forum (including lock/unlock), the reason I was given that right is solely for sticky/unsticky and "announcement, no replies" locking. I never pretended to be a "content moderator" nor am I on a power trip... therefore I won't be locking this thread down.

Besides, I'm not sure precisely which site guideline this thread breaks... but if it does get locked by one of the core moderators, I'll be curious to see which one it is! I would think that being critical of illegal and dangerous behavior isn't a bad thing, so I'm not so sure that rule #2 (RESPECT) fully qualifies. As for the "street racing, excessive speeding, violations of other laws" guideline (#5 - LEGAL), again, we're being critical of it, not condoning it.

NOTE: Remember that Irishcow's post is not giving out personal info... it is a link to the perpetrator's own post that has his phone number. He could very easily come back in and edit the number out of his post, but since he rarely ever posts... I'm guessing he won't.

And we're done

Locked for respect for other members

When phone numbers of members start to be posted as a way of encouraging people to let them know what you think, a line regarding respect for other members has been crossed.

Everyone - the issue that came up this year was a new precedent for the event and one that had not been seen previously. With that in mind I have emailed the list of those involved in the organization of this year's event to request feedback on how to develop a policy to deal with issues like this at future events. This could range from a reprimand to local law enforcement involvement depending on the type of behavior. Obviously we want to have an event that is fun and safe for all those attending. As a policy is developed I will incorporate it into the registration process as well as the planning for next year's event.

In the meantime to address banning on NAM relative to a member's actions offsite...

I feel that NAM's guidelines are meant to enforce what is expected in how we interact with each other while online...and something that can easily be seen, tracked, and dealt with as appropriate. With this in mind if violations of the guidelines are made the person will be issued a first strike warning and on a subsequent violation will be removed from the site.

As this particular issue occurred at an event and involved the real world safety of the event participants I see this as something that should be addressed by the event organizers (myself included) in a consistent way at future events. This will be incorporated in the registration process and event operations for next year's event. Regardless I'm confident that at next year's event issues of this nature will be dealt with quickly and severly. No one wants the fun and safety of an event to be marred by the actions of a single participant.

Mark
