Have mercy please....NEWBIE THREAD

I'm coming out of the closet....been a watcher so far even tho I'm a plankowner....with an early 02 S.

this morning I reserved a dogwood cabin @ Fontana (don't bother to PM me about how bad they are, it was all that was left other than the TIMESHAREs they said they just got the OK to rent that {our} weekend for those of u who want a fireplace and hot tub....) I lived in South Miami post Andrew...short of Katrina I think I can handle it....

So my question is: HELP

is there a thread I'm missing that kinda will lead me thru this? Or am I just ahead of the power curve? I'm looking for a draft schedule of events and that sort of thing.

Maybe you vet's would just start putting good juju in this thread for we newbies? Pleeeeeaaaaaassssssseeeeee .....

Now my first problem is deciding if I'm driving the Mini or the MINI? Maybe I should set up a poll.... gosh, you would allow a lil' old Mini in to a MINI event, right? but 500 miles in the 79....hmmm....well by Argo's standards that's just a short hop huh?!? btw Argo, how's the classic doin'? Get the sub' fixed yet?

so far I think I know:
  • bring my frs radio
  • cell phone won't work @ Fontana (but MicroTel has free internet)
  • food options in the immediate area are limited....
  • this used to be a dry area but it appears Fontana can sell beer now? (only asking for a friend.. )
Please add to the list ....

we LOVE Minis! there was only one there last year :(

feel free to PM with any questions you have!)

alcohol is available there, but the options are limited (tell your friend)
food is also available, but its a bit of a drive... and limited
there is a resturant @ Fontana... its a grill type tho... and there are a few local places
the cabins have kitchens and refrigerators (and plates and such)
jackets and boots are good! it gets COLD there at night!
lights for the midnight run (glow sticks are always popular)
**get a button with your car, name and state from the NAM store! they help a LOT!*
if you are NOT staying at Fontana, get gas elsewere- its limited @ deals gap
camera, memory card/film and batteries! lots to see!
$$$ for mods
car cleaning stuff! (you'll wash like once a day!)
some people like video to record runs
**********benedryl and dramamine....************

LOL Okeefe...you're jumping the gun a little. We still have 3 months yet...and information will become availabe, I promise.
There's a committee that's working on various events, and as soon as things get organised, I'm sure stuff will be posted.
This will be my 4th Dragon...I was down there waaaay back in '03.
The Queen gave some excellent suggestions and tips. There will be more, I'm sure.
You can always check out last year's Dragon forum, tho' each Dragon is/will be unique.
My advice to you, as an old timer ...relax, everything will fall into place. I stayed at a Dogwood last year...they aren't crappy, they're..rustic . Perfectly adequate, considering you'll be mostly sleeping there.
Yeah, so there's no internet up there....well, that's kinda the idea. I really don't think you'll miss it, you'll be busy I'm sure. Besides, it's really pretty up there...way nicer to look at than a screen. At night, if it's clear, you can see tons of stars...kinda cool.
Feel free to PM me with questions if you want.

Bring your Mini, yes? Although we live close to the Dragon we go some distance to other meets with ours. We'll be at MME in Maryland in June. Temps in May are more conducive to Mini driving.

There were actually three Minis at last year's run. My purple Equinox, Philty from FL, and Tim in the white clubman wagon with the UJ on top from Ohio.

I'm going to try and make it this year. Something unexpected came up last year and we had to leave Saturday morning. Actually, this will be our third MOTD and we hope we can make it without something needing us back at home.

Okeefe, bring the Mini. I don't have one and it's a car you don't see everyday. They are a hit for those that enjoy the history. During MOTD2, 2004, it was the first time I ever got up close and looked at a Mini. It was fantastic. I believe it was QueenB's at the Microtel.

I just checked the NAM Store. No such button anywhere. They only have Calendars, NAM Decals for your Mini(Original or New), Shirts (One style for men two styles for women), Videos and Vaccume Cams and accessories for the Vaccume cam.

I would bet the button will be back for the 4th MOTD. It just isn't close enough to the time to have them up yet. Registration, information and other necessities will be up in a few weeks. As long as you have your loding lined up the rest will come in due time.

Back on topic...

Dr. Diff- As time draws near... Mr. Ferguson is going to set up a special part of the store called "MOTD" If you journey there, you will discover these mystical buttons and LOTS more!

Stupid G-Bling. He was ALL trouble.

I've still got my button from last year. I guess it wil still work!!!!

Yay, this is all getting so exciting I know it is still three months away, but the nine months since the last one really HAS gone pretty quickly!!

Yep, one important thing to remember to bring is your own bucket and sponge to wash your MINI - there are hoses, but not so much in the way of washing equipment! It is nice to get the grime off your MINI after a days adventure!

I too still have my button from last year!! I just hope I can remember to bring it!! Last year mom hung her shirts up by the door and we still forgot them and had to turn around, about 30 miles up the road, and go back after them!!

Can anyone help with the new sigs? I have been looking and still can not find them.

They are made by a member of NAM... He prefers to remain nameless though, as he was getting a TON of requests daily.
(If you know who he is, please respect his wishes.)

HAHAHA that would mean the OL was working! That would be a first!
(and MINIUSA is NOT involved with MOTD- its ALL NAM)

The buttons look something like this
They have your real name, state, SN, and a custom picture of your car
