That would be ideal to have a wifi card....I guess I could go old school and run the cards with a manual swipe and input them upon our return to Ohio...

Not that this helps us without having any connection to start with, but I just picked up a Netgear travel wireless router at CompUSA (for $10 after rebates) and think it's pretty cool. Gotta love a MINIature wireless router!

I do not understand this entire thread…

The reason to go too the Dragon is to be with real people, have fun and drive, not be on a PC or phone.

I love the fact I have no connection to anywhere but my new friends I’ve just met for the first time or the old that I’ve been there with many times. We don’t need phones, we don’t need PC’s, we just face each other and talk. A true strange concept these days to MOST of you buried in the video screen or ear thing helpping to you in and out of your daily life.

A true emergency comes up and it’s difficult to get help, but 99% of you have this “need to stick something in your ear” or have a “need my PC fix” attitude… You need to learn to mellow out at sometime and the Dragon is it.

NO CELL and NO PC. LIVE IT!!! Don’t make it some everyday kind of experience that I’m away from work or can’t get online kind of thing.

Go, be happy and be one with your MINI, friends and enjoy.

It's not that many of us have a problem with that. We just want to know if it's availbable since several of us have some pretty hefty responsibilities (work, etc) that need to be taken care of daily via the web. If it's not, that's fine... we just need to know.

...and I don't understand why you'd want to continue to deal with a business that would lie to you like that. Whether you, personally, can live without an internet connection is beside the point.

If I understand it correctly, Fontana said Wireless would be available, they did not say where. They did not say in the cabins or lodge rooms.

They already have Internet access in the main registration building, so it would not be hard to add a wi-fi access point, however, I do not know the speed of their connection.

I guess it becomes a "working vacation"? or just a vacation ... IMHO, my motto is ...

My point was to see if I could run business transactions (for OutMotoring.com) through our website... wirelessly instead of going retro and using a manual card swipe deal....I don't need cell communication or wifi for any other purpose....I just wanted to make it easier for people to purchase stuff for their MINI's while at the dragon...

My point completely. The May Dragon event is not a business venture or trip, it is for fun!!! Go some where, meet people, have a wild ride on the most awesome roads and kick back at night and party for the evening.

Bring the kids, the dogs, the people you don’t know… Leave thhhhhhhhhhhhhe cats at home.

The "promise" was that high-speed access would be available in '06, if Fontana would be fully booked in '05.

And at the end of the '05 meet, a change in ownership/management was announced...

And... If you don't have it are you going to bail? Please let all know because cabins and rooms are like gold at this point unlike PC and cell phone connections.

I don't think sndwave means that, at all. I think he's trying to encourage people (in his own cranky way) to have fun!

So true and well said!

But if it is possible, I still like to be able to e-mail photos and update my website daily to let others who couldn't make it know how much fun they are missing on a daily basis!

Hi, Pat!
Actually, I have no interest in complicating my idyllic vacations with any more 19th, 20th, or 21st-century inventions than are absolutely necessary. No computers, no cell phones, and no mysterious electronics in my car. Well, I do have a CD player for my primative sound system.

I was just reporting the historical facts.

As for unused Fontana rooms, we don't even stay there. We use a cabin eight miles down the road, easy crawling distance to/from the fun, but out of earshot...My martinis are stirred, not shaken. See you there.

If anyone hears anything about it please post it here. I bugged Fontana management but have not gotten a solid answer...

I would hope it would active near the main hall where the meals, etc.are...
I picked up the phone this morning and called the Fontana lodge. There is no WIFI access anywhere on the property according to the woman I spoke with. There is an internet Kiosk in the lobby at a rate of .20 cents per minute.

I reconfirmed the status of cell phone service, there is none.

The Promise was:

The challenge is simple, if we sell out the Fontana for this year's MINIs on The Dragon, Fontana will guarantee that high speed internet access will be available in the Rec Center for MINI's on The Dragon 2006!

High Speed in the Rec Room, so don't think that you will get it in the cabins.
