Quote: Why not (again) do it a Thurs through Sunday? i don't want to lose 40 hours when i could lose only 16.
The 25th through the 30th happen to be the only dates at the end of june that are empty on the dragon calender. The 25th is a sunday and the 30th is a friday.

Ok, I am IN for June 25-30. I am also going to suggest we DO hit up the blue ridge parkway at some point for these reasons:
  • It is a much faster drive, and way more scenic
  • There are a TON of wonderful stop offs for us to, well, stop, enjoy the view, switch cars (ha), whatever. OOOH BBQ!
  • It doesn't make people throw up (well, almost).
  • It is literally hundreds (thousands maybe) of miles long which leaves us tons of options.
So I propose this: Caravan down to the dragon, do our thing there, and then spend a day or two on the blue ridge on the way back.

I am IN for caravanning from NJ/NY/PA - just let me know.

This idea really pumps me up. I graduated from college in '03 and have been missing it since - being an adult sorta sucks!!!!!

mb

btw - I went to the dragon this summer and went home via the BRP. I, hands down, enjoyed the BRP more.

Since the majority of the group expressed a desire for a 3 day outing-

Sunday through tuesday/wednesday, or Wednesday through Friday?

I would love to do this, but I live in Alabama. We would be coming from opposite sides.

I have been on Skyline Drive and the BRP in a MINI before, and it is awesome! My dad is usually on the conservative side, so nothing too crazy, but the 25/35MPH speed limits on Skyline Drive are RUBBISH! only because of those stupid campers...except that one that has an internal garage which will fit a MINI into it!!! There was a thread on it a week back or so...totally kick @$$...if you like 3mpg

Anyway I look VERY forward to caravaning, assuming my family has nuttin' going on that week *gets down on knees and prays to god*

Cheers,

You can swing up with us on the way back then loop back around to 'Bama! It's all in the name of Motoring!

Anymore name ideas for this outing?

Let's see: Early Life MINI Dragon Crisis?
Youngins Motoring on the Dragon?
Young MINI Dragon Slayers - YMDS?
Bizarro MOTD?
Summer Break MOTD?
Summer school on the Dragon! - See, that works well for college students and ME 'cause I'm a teacher. Ok ignore me now.

I have sent an email to put the event on the official dragon calender, with the dates as 25-30. We can make the event however long we want those days, i just marked those days on the calender. Although some people cant make it or arent up for 1 week event, this is a bigger window to allow people to make it.

Next: Invite local MINI clubs?

this seems TOTALLY awesome! but i might not be able to attend. we'll see. Its gonna be a really busy summer for me. After school is out im going to Germany to see the World Cup. We have tickets to a quarter final match on July 1st, but were not sure if we can make it, on account of my brother getting married on July 8th. So, IF i get home from Germany before the 25th, and IF i can convince my mom to let me go on a road trip immediately after getting home from a month vacation without her in Europe, and IF the bachelor party doesnt fall on that weekend, and IF i can pool some extra cash...ill try and comethumbsup:

Our event is now on the official dragon calender. The dates are June 25-30, and as the date gets closer, we'll decide whether to go earlier in the week or later. (As some people can only make it a couple of days.) Thats the plan. I think we should start inviting our local clubs to get the population up.

Its official now; there is no backing out....
