I'm not convinced that Oscar is actually making the trip from Houston to Fontana Village, Katie. But if he does go, he'd look cute in one of those kitty harness contraptions! And I don't mean a Schroth!

I love cats, but what if I brought my moose slippers to the dragon? I'd probably either frighten them into hiding, or else instigate a vicious attack on myself.

Oscar is a good motorer, for sure, but I've never travelled with him so far. I am attending a blogland gathering in April in Austin and I'm thinking I'll take Oscar on that trip with me and see how he fares. He has never travelled in a cat carrier (although for the trip to the dragon I would definitely confine him) and he just sits in my lap and chills.

When we go outside he wears his harness and leash, although if there are lots of cat-hating dogs around (AHEM!) then he might not be able to get out much.

Thanks for the tip, Clo! I'm going to find out what days of the week my classes are next semester. If they are earlier in the week, I should be done with my exams by the 4th and be free to travel! But I am definitely going to try to use the family wedding excuse. hehehe.

Have not heard a word about or from hiim after last year. It would not surprise me at all if I heard he sold the MINI and moved on.

It's just Oscar's nature to be a lose cat. He's a prowling promiscuous tom.

CooperBeagle, my smokey runs independently off a 9 volt for outside use if needed. If you bring the Pig Nose I can rapidly open and shut it for reverb. I bet few have a clue what we are talking about.

Spoonie, it's our finals week here. I simply plan to get students' permission not to have a final. Actually, we don't use them (final papers instead). I just need to get back for graduation. Why I endure it I don't know. The custom is to pummel me immediately after they get the sheepskin due to my sudden lack of power over them. Go with the Clo (suggestions).

Cool I was glad to see they started making them again, did a strong enough hint to get one for a birthday present a few years ago, and was surprised how even lower tech they are than I remembered. I love the switch though. Oink oink.

Not on your life UK, we're dragging you up on the "stage." We can not allow you to pass on this opportunity. Your public music career will begin at The Dragon and can only go up from there! If you can form a G chord, a D chord and a C chord, you're in the show! (Actually, you'll be doing better than most of us! ) In fact, I know several numbers with only one chord in them... So we will not accept your excuses... The world needs its next rock star, and you are it!

Second, Question, all agreeing?, unanimous: UK rocks with us. Anyone actually bringing a guitar? I would but will need to fly in. UK, if it were about ability I'd never touch an instrument.

So I booked the wife and I a room in the Fontana inn yesterday. This will be our first MOTD and I couldn't be more excited. We're more OT kinda people anyway. I may have to bring my guitar. I just brought them out of hiding after 8 years. I remember the G chord, D chord and I think I've got the C down too. Maybe even an A. Gotta get new strings though... We'll have some fresh marg's & Gin&Tonic's abound and look forward to meeting all you guys and maybe even getting some driving in!

With all the attention given The Off Topic Band (welcome to the band, simplygriff) and the adoring groupies, this thread needs revival.

CooperBeagle and I have been channeling Julia Child for inspiration and have come up with a dish we will share during th concert. It fits with our planning to do a Tom Waits tune and in honor of another of his works. We'll be cookin' up a filipino boxspring hog. BYO sauce. CB's also going to bring along the best selling dessert at his Mexican restaurants, chocolate jesus (pr. hey zooz). Thanks CB!

(This does make sense to people who know his music: I am insane but this is a lucid thought.)

Yeah...what is it? Katie, ini is famous for making things up on the fly. Maybe he and CoopBeag are pulling our legs...or rather, our hocks.

I am shocked! No, not so much at Katie, but Clover must be posing as a Tom Waits fan. How could she be if she hasn't even listened to his seminal album, "Mule Variations". Two songs on it are "Filippino Boxspring Hog" and "Chocolate Jesus".

"Gotta roll em over twice
Baste him with a sweeping broom
You gotta swat them flies
And chain up the dogs
Cookin up a filipino Box Spring Hog
Cookin up a filipino Box Spring Hog"...

"Well it's got to be a chocolate Jesus
make me feel good inside
Got to be a chocolate Jesus
Keep me satisfied"

Besides not knowing the album, I guess neither of you grew up like me along the tracks. Discarded box springs was all we had to roast pigs. Nope no Webers; just springs.

Given you must have grown up in houses, I'd think you would have been able to feast on those chocolates. The song introduced them to me. We were content to lick the sides of discarded sugar packets when lucky enough to find them.

Man Clover, just wait until the airing of grievances next Festivus.

I remember that, and all we had for fuel was the coal that fell off the coal cars. Had to rub the coal on the tracks to get it hot enough to light off.
