2021 LCI Intercooler and Charge Pipes Upgrade Options

Hey Team, does anyone have recommendations from personal experience which intercooler and charge pipes would work on a 2021 LCI F60 S FWD.

From what I’ve been able to research it seems that the front bumper change limits or omits options and then of course there’s different options available for the B48 JCW Model.

I didn’t expect it to be this complicated but it seems it is and wanted to get valuable input if there is any.

According to a quick search on https://www.realoem.com/ the intercooler is interchangeable with any 3rd generation car built after 3/2017, including the F56, F54, and F60. Same with the charge pipes. So, there you go.

For aftermarket fitment, I would think the F60 has more room behind the front bumper for an aftermarket intercooler compared to the F56.

I do not have any personal experience. I have a factory pre-LCI F60 JCW, so my car already has a slightly bigger intercooler than the S models. I would like to believe that an F60 JCW LCI intercooler would fit without much difficulty.

Thanks for chiming in Nik and thanks for the good info. I've been doing some research since I posted that new thread and even been having a good conversation via text w/ Aaron from OutMotoring. What we've been able to find out is I may have the option to use an aftermarket intercooler designed for either a JCW or S model. I haven't been able to 100% confirm it yet but if I were to purchase an aftermarket intercooler designated for a JCW model, I could fit it on an S but I would have to buy charge pipes designed for such intercooler due to the port connections between the charge pipes and intercooler having a larger diameter. The other end of the charge pipes where they meet the turbo and TIP are identical since there is no difference in diameter at the turbo for either the B46 or B48 versions. This hasn't been confirmed yet but it's a starting point.

The safe path would be to purchase an aftermarket intercooler and charge pipe kit designed for the S and I'm waiting for Racing Dynamics to get back to me for confirmation since their site doesn't list compatibility for LCI models. The assumption is they haven't annotated the fitment because they haven't tested yet but I'm not sure why a Pre LCI setup wouldn't work on an LCI model.

Below are links that I'm focused on right now trying to confirm. Racing Dynamics seems to be the only company that offers both aftermarket options. CTS Turbo might be another....

Yeah, the LCI JCW stuff is slightly bigger. I missed that.

For intercooler, if you're going to do aftermarket, just get the "S" version. That should save any headaches with fitment.

I'm not convinced the gains are worth it for aftermarket intercooler charge pipes. I think the best bang-for-buck would be the turbo inlet pipe and intake.

I use the Dinan intake resonator delete pipe.
Easy installation.
