HPFP Info

My pump failed so I just wanted to share that the updated TU / Supra pump works great if needing to replace your HPFP. The only two things that need to be addressed are the solenoid position and bending the fuel lines a bit since the pump is slightly rotated compared to the non TU pump. The solenoid issue is easy enough, you just need to pry it off carefully and put it back on in the same orientation as the one that comes off and then you can just tap it back on with a rubber mallet. I am able to run a bit higher ethanol mix now with the better pump too.

Update: please make sure if you do this and replace the cam follower, make sure the cam follower is in the correct direction and not place the roller sideways. I have seen several people mess this step up and ruin their cam / engine putting metal through it. Not sure how they managed this as it should have a small key but maybe cheaper follower have a weaker one or something.

It was not too bad, just remove the triple square bolts holding the rear seats in and then you need to peel the carpet back a bit (easier if you remove the plastic trim in the back and bottom of the door opening). I used a flat bar for prying nails out to rotate the plastic cover and the ring below after. Remove the wire harness rubber plug and you can feel how far you need to rotate the plastic top to line it up and pull it out. I wish I was not in such a time crunch else I would have taken some photos and made a guide.

How did you know what the limit was for ethanol? There's a shop I spoke to who does E85 conversions who said even the stock HPFP can handle E85. I've heard from others its hard on them, though.

From what I have seen the stock one is okay for around e30 which for some may be fine. The only reason I swapped mine out was cause the stock one was failing and a positive side effect was more pump headroom so I can run higher ethenol mixes. Right now I have bootmod3 with a custom tune running about e70 as my area absolutely sucks for ethenol so I can't really go any higher. Massachusetts only has 3 station options and usually 70% is the best we can get with an average of 60 - 65%.

Oh, cool, great to know. Around here E85 is often 70%, that's what I had in mind. That gives me hope for my future conversion goals!

I thought I was happy with a custom JB4 map but man switching to stage 2 Bootmod3 then to custom ethenol tune what a difference lol. It's oh so much fun to pull on JCWs with my plain old S. I have surprised plenty of other cars too.
