vent dropped into wheel-well?

2019 countryman-s ALL4 - Replaced the battery and was cleaning out all of the debris in and around and removed one of the little white plastic grates down deep on the fire-wall.

I see 2 on each side. What are these for? Is it important?

Anyway, I accidentally pushed it in trying to replace it. It looks like I need to pull off the wheel-well and probably get it in from underneath. Do I need to remove the wheel? Is this straight-forward? Appreciate any "hints"!

thx

Yes, that traps the junk so it will not get clogged in the drain further down.

Dont see it on its worn. Do you have a picture of the location?

Same thing is molded into the rain tray:

Thanks for posting ECSTuning. I don't have a picture of what it looks like down where it attaches. It's so deep that I could barely get my hand down there. I still haven't taken off the wheel well, but that's my plan. I don't know why there's no picture of it!

I'll post back when I take off the wheel well
