Oil condition sensor failure

So I took my car in for an oil change and the shop notified me that they couldn't reset the service required indicator. They wanted to charge $75 just to do a diagnostics, so I passed since its sole purpose seems to be to notify me of the need to change my oil. I did pull the error code, and got error code 1C4110, Oil condition sensor:malfunction.

Has anyone else ever come across this and gone down the repair path?

Screw that mindless sensor. Change oil and filter every 5K. How to tell? Odometer reads ##0000 or ##5000.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought this same thing. Although I DO think it is a nice piece of technology, if I didn't have it, it wouldn't affect my oil change habits: Every 5000 miles for my F60, even if that is a bit early.
