Update
Quote: The JCW big brakes sure look great!

If your pedal pressure goes soft when you start the car, then there is still some air in the system somewhere.
Yes there was air still in it. I ran through it again with pressure and it seemed to help. Took it to dealer to get the software updated and they said the DCS was acting funny and the software was acting up. They wound up bleeding it again with their equipment. All is right with the world.

I cannot say if you need the software update or not, but I got it anyway. My thought is if my wife is in an accident, I don't want to give the insurance any reason to not pay out. (plus it should just be done to keep the car correct)

Thanks to all of who helped on this thread.

Jeff

Jefferson, can you post, POST-install photos of everything? I am highly considering this upgrade for my SE.

Sure

Side view. The wheels hide the calipers more than I wanted, but tuth is I care more the stopping power than the looks.

Same profile as stock wheels. So if you want them to stick out some, you should not buy the JCW wheels.

Rear calipers.

Front calipers

Well done! You have a household full of SUVs! I wonder if this setup would work on my Countryman PHEV.

Ok, I'm looking into retrofitting the brakes on my F60 and wasn't sure if coding (Ho-wort :spob) would work. Thanks for the help

Not sure I mentioned it before, but our F60 has the F57 JCW Tune Kit so proper braking seemed like a good idea. This the main reason for the coding.

you mean F54 don't you? The kit for F56, F57 is not valid for F60

Sure, OK. if you say so I don't really know
I cannot speak with any authority about the newer gen 2/3. just the early gen 1's

I do know that the tune plate says F56S09789. so I was just guessing and was wrong F56 not 57.

I think we got crossed up somehow.
Based upon the plaque, I think the tune kit is for an F56.
Based on the description for the brake from ECS:

JCW 4 Piston Sport Brake Kit Retrofit-Priced As Kit F54 & F60

It could be either......
I think you can see my confusion with this conversation.

Either way.....to answer your original question. I had the brakes coded at the dealer.

Parts that come with it : https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=03_0047

So everything matches up the same, the change is you have a brake booster and upgraded larger master cylinder for the stock F54 to the F54 JCW kit. Much like we found in our ECS Genuine MINI Gp2 kit we made. The part number on the master on the JCW retrofit kit for the F54 is the same in the stock F60 JCW. So you will not need that part.

The brake booster is a different part number in that kit then in the F60. So that may not be needed. My theory based off of the brake booster is the F60 since it already has the larger master must have a larger brake booster. So those kit should swap. If you do get it and install let us know.
Does not look like its will need flashed based off what i can see afterwards for the DSC like the old gen 2 kit.
Reviving an old thread here.... Is there a specific kit build for the F60 that does not contain the brake booster or master cylinder. Since these are not needed per the discussion to upgrade the F60 to the JCW brakes, can they be removed from the kit thus resulting in a lower price?

Hello,

Thats what MINI requires for the brake upgrade, nope thats a set price and set all in one kit shipped under one sku. You have to realize thats MINI sets the cost and when it set its usually 30%-50% less then the sum of the kits, thats how they do it on all in one part number kits like this. So if you buy everything ala carte its usually higher priced. Its about if its safe, pedal feel, and modulation when MINI makes these all in one part number kits.
