I just found out that my production week is 40 as well...Not happy about that...I ordered 8/10/2019...I am going to go in and have a chat with the sales manager. He stood there and told me he had allocations (quotas) ready to go.

Pretty sure I've read there was a delay on 2020 custom orders.
Should take about 4 weeks to get to the dealer after production so you should have it by first week of November give or take depending on your location.

Yeah...that is what I am figuring...but I am certainly going to go have a chat with the sale manager about his "I have plenty allocations" comment. I don't mind having to wait...I REALLY hate being mislead...especially since I continually send them customers.

As I understood "allocations" at the time I ordered my car in October 2017, that word meant something like the dealership having received the equivalent of a "Take-a-Number" ticket (like at a deli counter ) from the factory. Again, my understanding (subject to being 100% wrong) was that each dealer receives a certain number of annual "allocations," based on location, sales history and other factors. But having an immediately available "allocation" was not the same as a vehicle immediately going into production... seems it's just the "right" to send an order to the factory. I think dealerships use allocations for both the cars they spec and order themselves to sell off the lot, and for custom builds; and it kind of makes sense for the factory to ration or control its production load with requests coming from around the world.

I ordered my car on Oct 2 and had a "production number" on Oct 4, but the car (I was told by MINI USA) was scheduled for week 44, subject to change based on plant scheduling factors. It makes sense to me that the plant managers would want to group certain types of vehicles for manufacture during a particular production period (guessing again: perhaps grouping vehicles meant for different parts of the world built to different standards). Anyway, my car was, in fact, put into production in week 44 (Nov 2), and that was the day the car was assigned its VIN#; manufacture was completed on Nov 14, it shipped on Nov 22, and I received it on the US West Coast on Dec 20.

If someone has more direct info, perhaps having worked for a dealership, I am more than happy to be corrected. I assume that when you speak with your sales manager you'll get some verification or clarification of this, and it will be interesting to hear what you've found out. Thanks.

-Bob
