Wife is looking for an R60 or R61 JCW to replace her old 2015 All4 JCW that was written off parked in front of our house.
We found a really nice R61 (true JCW, and not JCW appearance package) that is for sale and has had the motor replaced due to a timing chain disaster.
So turns out they installed a lower mileage S motor, but retained the JCW turbo and ECU. It runs great, but curious where this would fall with regards to power? Somewhere between S and JCW? or exactly like a JCW? All other running gear, exhaust, etc is JCW.
Thanks for any info you can provide…the really nice R61 is her favourite colour, red, and everything else she liked about the old R60….lounge leather seats with red piping, H/K, nav, etc..
Thanks!

The table provides an initial technical overview of the new features in the N18B16T0 engine in
comparison to the N18B16M0 engine.
Engine mechanics
• Piston with modified piston crown
• Purge air line in all country versions
• Tank ventilation line with heating element
• Adaptation of the dual-mass flywheel
• Friction-gear servodrive without actuator
Cooling
• Position of coolant temperature sensor
Intake and exhaust emission systems
• Twin-scroll exhaust turbocharger with larger diameter
of the compressor housing
• Diameter of clean air duct with gaiter increased
• Higher measuring range of the pressure sensors in the
intake system up to 3 bar
• Steel manifold
Fuel preparation
• Bosch high pressure pump with fuel pressure of 150 bar
Engine electrical system
• Bosch MEVD17.2.7 engine control unit
Ideally the "lower mileage S motor" would be from a 2013 or newer that has the Bosch high pressure fuel pump.
The Cooper S engine had higher compression and different DME tuning. So, running and S engine on a JCW turbo and DME, your power will be slightly higher than stock JCW. I would double check the turbo nameplate to see which turbo it has. If it has an S turbo, then your power will be down compared to JCW, but higher than stock S due to different boost targets in the JCW DME.
Thanks for that info. I knew on the B48 the JCW has a lower compression ratio than an S, but wasn’t sure on the N18 motor. The car is in British Columbia, very close (<1 mile) to RPM Power….was thinking of Stage 2 tune by Lorenzo…wife’s car, but I get to drive it too!
I will let them know it is S motor, with JCW turbo and DME, will be valuable info.
Thanks again!
