Angry P1338 code, cam sensor or timing chain?

So Im in a pickle. I had a rodent eat multiple bits of wiring in my 2012 Countryman S, took it to mini, they "fixed" it, but no more than 2 days later I was looking in the engine bay and found more damage they had missed.
I took the car back a second time, they "fixed" it again, but low and behold, 2 days later I get code P1338 that my cam position sensor is messed up (they had worked on the wires leading into the sensor last time I was in). I immediately assume it is yet again, incompetency on Mini's end. I begrudgingly take it back today to get it fixed a THIRD time, and they call me this evening saying there's no way it was fault on their end, but that my timing chain is toast and needs replaced, which will costs me $5k they quoted.

What do you all think? Anyone had this code before? I saw another post on here about a guy who replaced his sensor himself and the code resolved. I bought a replacement sensor and installed it 2 days ago, code was still present, which leads me to believe it is a wiring issue, especially considering they just "fixed" the wires leading into it. I think Mini is trying to put the screws to me.

Im pissed off, thoroughly unimpressed, and just downright tired of dumping money into this car every week. Any ideas/recommendations would be highly appreciated.

Thanks, Bowen C
