I once upon a time had a lovely 2003 MINI Cooper S that I had to sell for scrap because the engine and all the pumps died. The repairs were extensive. The cause, I was told, was that BMW did not blow out all the sand when they cast the engine. I'm still mad... I loved that car...So I bought a boring but reliable Toyota.
I've decided that life is too short to not have another MINI, so I'm looking at a 2011 Countryman S All4. Does anyone know if these have any engine issues?
If you'd like to get a Countryman S, look for a 2013+ if you can. While the early N18 engines are better than the N14 engines, the later models are slightly better yet. The 13+ N18 engine is similar to the 11-12 N18, but has a couple extra refinements that make it a slightly better power plant.

I don’t know about over years as this is my 1st mini, but with that said, I found a 2012 Mini Countryman s all4 with 60k miles. It needed a few things, brake lines, new plugs, new ignition coils and maybe front rotors. I’ve been driving this now for several weeks as my daily driver and this car is a blast. I might look into getting a few more engine goodies but I’m happy with my purchase. I had read that 2011-2013 were to be watched out for with regards to the transmission, but my auto is fine. Good luck on the hunt. Here’s a couple of photos with my winter wheels/tires.
