High pressure fuel pump on a 2011 Countryman S

Just had to replace my HPFP, between parts and labor $680. Ouch! Looking through the forum this seems to be a persisent issue with both Minis and BMWs. MINIUSA added a warranty extension for 2007-2009 Turbo vehicles.

I only had 40k miles on mine. Wondering is others are having the same issue?

BMW has had numerous failures of the Continental manufactured high pressure pumps on the N54, in the early production from 2007-2010. Warranty extended to 100k because it's a known safety/breakdown issue.

Even high pressure pumps on the new diesel engines have been known to grenade themselves, sending metal shavings into the fuel system and requiring a complete fuel system replacement, from tank to injectors.

So...yes, it's a known BMW / Mini issue

Thanks S4SF. We're in agreement on the HPFP issues on other/earlier models, what I'm wondering is whether any 2011+ Countryman owners are experiencing the same issues. I would hope MINI/BMW has fixed the problem by now. If not, I'd like to make a case for extended warranty coverage for the 2011 Countryman as well.

How many times you let the fuel get low as in red led's ? I think running low on fuel is the biggest culprit in early demise of the hpfp
