R60 Total all4 oddball question
Total all4 oddball question
I was not even sure how to ask this and I have failed at trying to search for information on how, or if this can even be changed so here goes.
As I understand it the all4 is only all wheel drive during wheel spin. Can this be altered? for instance would it be possible through a tune or something else to force the rear bias to change?
I also wonder would it even be good for the car for instance is the drive train built for that, or would you basically destroy the cars transmission? I mean if the rear wheels are only meant to engage during slip would they have maybe never designed them to even be able to take that kind of wear?
Sorry if its been asked be for. I did try to search I keep getting car sale and review listings, I already want a R60 just trying to get more geek info =)

First off, your understanding is actually incorrect.
The All4 system is driving all four wheels at low speed all the time. As speed increases, it slowly transitions to FWD only.

Second, presumably if you can program it, you can change the allocation to whatever you want. Or you can disassemble it all and fasten it together mechanically... if that's even plausible.

Thank you Y8s that is some very definitive information thats why I like coming to these forums. Only reason I ask is an article on the Haldex VW all wheel drive system, I was under the impression the R60 used something similar. Its reassuring to hear that the rear systems seem to built to handle quite a bit of torque from the factory, now just need to figure out if It would be possible to tweak it manually. Thanks again for the info!
Yes, sound like 50/50 then transfer to the front.

At 0 mph its an even 50/50 spilt with a maximum of 50% of power being able to be sent to the rear wheels; as speed increases power shifts away from the front and at ~80 mph and greater 100% of power is to the front wheels. System was not designed to benefit dry surface performance driving but more as a safety to maintain traction. If you do plan on driving on low traction surfaces or like sand, un-plowed, deep snow covered roads, or if your stuck you should activate the Dynamic Traction Control for maximum traction but at a loss of vehicle stability. From my understanding with DTC active the system will no longer move power between wheels, even when it detects wheel slip, functioning like an actual off-road vehicle. Obviously this is ideal for those conditions but not meant for normal driving. Hope you found this useful for those people to lazy to click the link....
