R60 heat side mirrors
On other cars they normally come on when you turn on the rear defroster. If heard on MINI's they come on when the outside temperature reaches a certain threshold.
Not much help but the manual says:
Automatic heating:
At external temperatures below a certain limit, both exterior mirrors are automatically heated while the engine is running or the ignition switched on.
Window washer nozzles:
The window washer nozzles are heated automatically while the engine is running or the ignition is switched on.

They work like a charm! Living here in Colorado I've had several days where the car was iced up coming out of work and within minutes of starting up they looked perfect...all the ice was gone. I've never had this feature on a car before...I love it. I think they just come on automatically around the same temp as the warning light comes on saying there is possible ice on the roads....which I think was 34 or so.
