Hey All!

New to mini's and my wife just for a 2014 countryman. We are in the process of getting used to all of minis quirky features.

Is there a way to see the engine temp and oil pressure on the mini? Most cars come with these gauges, but mini's do not.

Thanks!

For oil pressure I believe you have to install a mechanical gauge for this.

For oil temperature, you can install a mechanical gauge or you can get a ScanGauge II which hooks into the OBDII interface provided that it has Mini-specific programming (http://www.scangauge.com/support/x-gauge/mini/). I'm glad I looked this up as non of the other OBDII solutions I looked at previously could provide oil pressure info for the Mini. With an electronic gauge you will also have access to other info such as coolant temp, IAT, boost, etc. so it may still be useful to invest in one even if you decide to go with a mechanical gauge for the oil temperature.

Temp gauge
Mini has an accessory one or two gauge set that the dealer can install on a Mini. I know one is water temp gauge, but it is in C not F and the other is either a g meter or something. I see no need for the g meter in mine but I am thinking about having a water temp gauge installed at the dealer.
be advised these gauges are in the JCW accessories and the gauges have black face.

I have seen recent post on this site about this so do a search. I remember reading about a guy who put them on his country man.

CravenSpeed as a new product, nGauge, that plugs right into the OBDII port

Or you can go the traditional way, with sensors, wires, etc

Oil pressure is via mechanical connection only. I have a scan gage II and it allows me to monitor 4 things at once like engine temp, intake temp, boost pressure, volts and so on. Took 5 mins to install and works great.

Seemed like the best bang for the buck at around $150

Thanks for the link to the nGauge. I like the reversible nature of those, and the bracket certainly looks clean.

Mebbe so, but I don't want intervening steps (button pushes or whatever) in between me and the data.

That's kinda neat, but again, not real-time, real world.
Saving mah pennies for the nGauge.

An economical method to monitor engine readouts is thru the OBD with wifi dongle plugged into OBD port and accessed thru smart phone app. There is a discussion in electrical about this. Was $10 for dash command app and $25 for the "ELM" wifi, works great, but will not give oil pressure info.
