Fixed- solution below

Hey all,
Long time lurker, first poster.

wife has a 2011 R60.

Added the K&N RU-1540, engine went into "Reduced power mode" popped the battery for 10 mins- all was well. Then it started happening randomly.

We just recently did the 2nd cat and resonator delete- but from what I've read that can't/hasnt been an issue for the users here.

Going to try and clean the MAF, maybe it got fouled when the old air box was removed?

Any and all help you guys can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Shane

Reduced power light is on constantly, even after 5 min battery disconnect.

Try reinstalling the factory intake and see if it goes away. That will help you narrow down the issue.

Or get a code reader and see what code it says.

Yeah, went to autozone- apparently they can't read the codes.

Have an appt at the dealership on Monday. Unsure if I should reinstall or keep as is. Supposedly the codes are kept in the system for 7 days or so.

Hoping someone with this issue/setup will chime in.

Be prepared to flip the bill if you keep the after market intake on there, and it turns out it is what is causing the the CEL! As suggested above, I would reinstall the factory box to see what happens before to take it the the Dealer!

The dealer actually said they will check the code for free, even after i told him we put the filter. Pretty good place we have in San Antonio.

I would still put the factory intake to narrow down possibilities.

If you have free time today, it could save you a trip to the dealer. It doesn't take that long to swap the intake back. Did you check all the air hoses to make sure nothing is loose?

It's weird that Autozone couldn't help. Did they hook up to the OBD port and try or did they tell you no inside the store? I would think any code reader would work with an error like that.

Hey gang,
Put the stocker on and pulled the battery- the code cleared. Engine is fine now.

Per the dealership, mini uses "P" codes and the code refers use the "D" codes- apparently almost nobody has that code reader.

We are still taking it in tomorrow- will post up and let everyone know.

just out of curiosity, might you have neglected to remove the clear plastic protective cover on the oiled filter element before using… (engine staving for sufficient air?)
just a thought, please don't be offended...

IMO I had the same thought. If all you did was change a filter and the car went into a reduced power mode the problem would lie with the filter.

A plastic sheet over the filter material would of surely caused the car to loose power...

Hey all,
First thanks for the replies!

Put the stock air box back on, pulled the battery and the code went away.
Went to the dealer: the high pressure fuel pump was going out- apparently it's a known item. Mini has extended the warranty on this part to 100k miles.

Filter wasn't the cause, just oddly specific timing apparently!

I thought that was strange. I have been running a RU-1540 on my Countryman for the past 8 months or so with no issues. You had me questioning my filter for a minute haha.
