Wait... so it doesn't even do it a little like the normal S? You have to be joking....

I'm driving a 2013 S right now and it clearly pops once warmed up. My 2011 would go nuts. If there's none of that in the JCW, I'm literally canceling my pickup.

Another point is that it takes a few hundred miles to kick in - I guess it's adaptive. Have you put enough miles on it yet? Also, the engine has to be over 180 degrees F before it starts overfueling.

It's very difficult, and it's never been done correctly without having issues.

I have two reports from friends that have these now that there is some degree of popping, so I'm thinking it's a break-in issue. All hope is not lost!

Hopefully you guys are right and we just haven't put enough miles on it but it's definitely been up to operating temperature. There is no sign of exhaust pops or burbles (yet). I can get my S to pop so loud coming home (in a cul-de-sac) that it echoes like someone fired a shotgun. I freakin' love that!

That's terrible news... We're having RENNTech look into this to see if they've altered the overfuel tables in some way.

The ridiculous part is that the 2013 S still pops, but the JCW doesn't? You have to be kidding...

Pretty big news here: MINI is aware of the problem, and is looking into possible solutions.

Stay tuned!

I still can't believe the JCW Countryman is so expensive, so to not include that as part of the standard (the pop and burble) when it is on the S is ludicrous.

For the summer tires, how can they not include all seasons as an all wheel drive car, at least as an option. I have all seasons on my 19 inch wheels on my Audi Q5, so it's not like they don't make them for 18" or larger. Mini is really dropping the ball on some of these details.

I can live without some of the details on a $25,000 car, not one that can easily go past $45,000 with options.

Eh... the tire thing happens on BMWs all across the board, so no surprise there.

As for the pop/burble, looks like that's in the works at the moment. Thankfully they've hopped on it right away. That's a serious issue to many of us.

It's so strange BC I read an article about the JCW Countryman with a MINI engineer and he talked about how they went above and beyond to make the newest JCW model pop and burble.

I'm pretty sure I can't disclose the sources, but take my word for it. We have direct word from the top (literally) that it is indeed an issue (more like mistake - my words) and it will be fixed.

There are a fair amount of higher-ups involved now, and we're told it's at the top of the priority list.

Actually, I can post this quote:

" I have official word from on high that this issue is high on the priority list and they are already workng on a fix for it. It is a software issue that has to do with the new (updated) JCW engine. Should be as simple as a re-flash at the dealership once a fix is available."

Funny that was my next question....what will they do have a reflash? I know my dealer doesn't seem to usually be up to date on these things....I'm probably going to have to hound them about the reflash once I hear it's available.

I'll be right on top of this and post any and all updates in this thread.

In the mean time, I need to update the thread pic to reflect my changed order. Forgot to do that!

Updated the main post, but here it is anyway:

Theta...my JCW arrived a few days ago and it is very similar to the one you will be receiving. I love it so far. Will be writing up a review soon.

When are they going to fix the burble? I got to say I have a 2013 S hardtop loaner and while it pops regularly when I shift and let up on the gas, it's more of a metallic pop....and no burble. Sounds more like stuff is banging around in the boot than a cool exhaust sound. However that said...some pop is better than nothing. I hope the JCW Countryman gets fixed and it sounds better than that.

No telling. Could be a month or a year.

The S models have limited pop. The JCW models have pronounced pop/burble/flutter. There's a distinct difference.

With aftermarket exhaust, the popping (or rather the loudness of such) is increased exponentially.

Yes it's disappointing that the larger diameter JCW exhaust doesn't burble on its own. My 2003 S didn't make any noise but switching the exhaust to a UUC, it burbled like crazy....it sounded beautiful. No ECU tweaking was needed.

Theta....let me know which ECU tune you go with. That's the only mod I want to do. I'm leaning towards Renntech.

The diameter doesn't really change anything other than bellowing waves (that's for another discussion).

The JCW factory exhaust is extremely muffled, unlike the previous aftermarket system. The stock DP with the 400-cell cat goes to the 2nd 200-cell cat, then into a 12x5 resonator, then back to a similar backbox to the S... Just disappointing.

But regardless, I'm going straight to straight pipes, so that's that.

As far as a tune goes, I will be going to RENNtech. We'll need to wait on that until the pop/burble issue is fixed, though. That can't be put in with a simple aftermarket ECU tune.

How well does the JCW fuel economy ratings compare with the standard Countryman All4?

Much like the other JCWs, the numbers should stay essentially the same between the ALL4 S and the JCW.

This is the also the first JCW to utilize Valvetronic with the N18.
