R60 What is Your MPG
socal805, what city are you in? assuming heavy heavy stop/go traffic with lots of sitting still? That seems really low even for city driving, I deal with traffic in Dallas but I still net out mid to high 20s even with no highway travel.
Live in Thousand Oaks roughly 30 miles outside downtown Los Angeles. Ventura County.
I am not a lead foot but I certainly am not a slow driver. Mostly only me in the car, automatic, AC is usually on. Normal suburb type driving.

I am on the exact same mpg pace for first 1000 miles
300 miles from Dallas to Tulsa
cruise control set at about 70 to 75 most of the trip, with a few more agressive spots here/there. Averaged 30.6 MPG. I'm sure it would have been much higher had i been willing to drop to 65 or below for a couple hundred miles... but that wasn't happening.
have had my CMS for almost a year now.... average about 26-29 mpg mixed city/hway driving.... I've done long hauls with the car to and from San Diego and couldn't average better than 32 mpg with 5 people in the car... I guess that's pretty normal... what gets me is that the range of our cars is short compared to other smaller cars.... I seem to be putting in gas almost once a week.... sigh....
I get 27MPG or 8.6l/100km up here in Canada with my All4. Mainly rush hour traffic, winter tyres and a roof rack.. I should be able to push it down to 8l/100km or closer to 30MPG in the summer I believe.
That being said, I had a spirited drive on an unplowed road and I hit an awesome 17MPG.. Man. My mini is thirsty.

Yeah, 16 - 18 MPG in the city. It's simply horrible, dude. This is driving around Boston/Cambridge/Arlington Ma in a '12 MCs all4 Automatic.
These numbers aren't really in nasty stop and go traffic on the way to work either which makes the number so puzzling. It is mostly middle of the day 5 mile trips or weekend errands when all we really have to contend with is stop lights.
I first thought that it was the turbo and that I needed to learn how to drive a turbo with automatic (any aspirated car I've owned before the CMS was manual) But then my wife who ALWAYS get's better mpg's than I do is getting not much better ( tend to be around 16 she's around 18)
I did observe that using the paddle shifters does improve the mpg a bit.
I also observe that idling at a stop light simply kills mpg in this car.
Due to our growing family, we bought a second car that is larger, has a bigger engine, same hp/torque figures, and heavier yet gets better mpg around town. Go figure!
We are reconsidering what we want to do with the CMS because it is not meeting our MPG expectations at all. Besides this and the frequent trips to the shop in the first 6,000 miles, the car has been wonderful and met all of our other needs. Any advice to help improve in town mpg would be great!

Stop lights/signs, and short trips from a cold engine are MPG killers. The turbo engine (if you get into boost) taking off from stops also hurts. Looking far ahead for stop lights and getting off the gas and coasting up to them will help greatly, as will driving away from them without using boost . Planning trips so you go much farther with each trip with a warm engine will also help greatly.
I do a typical 5 mi RT to a grocery store with 3-4 stops depending on traffic. On the 2.5 mi outbound leg this AM I got 21 mpg with a cold engine. On the return leg I got 30 mpg (all reported from my Scangauge).

We just finished a 300 mi trip on relatively flat terrain, about 10% city miles, the remainder interstate with cruise set about 65 mph. Weather was in the 60's with light wind, but using California winter gas blend; we got 33.8 mpg with our ALL4 manual. There was some extended idling involved because we got a dealer service in the middle of the trip.
I have a manual CMS and after 3 months I am getting 27.8 mpg. Using an iPhone app I supposedly get 29.7mpg when using 93 octane and 26.9mpg when I use 89 octane.
My driving is probably 70% city driving but I don't get caught in in the stop and go rush hour traffic.

i only use premium grade
i see 4-6 mpg difference tank-on-tank between E10 and E0, E0 gets better mpg and cold starts (< 10F) are much smoother

this is slightly concerning to me since the published "estimated" MPG for the 2013 model is 35hwy/27city/30combined for the manual. it looks like the majority of people are getting less than that, but are most people driving an auto transmission? i would really like to get this vehicle but might have to go with something more fuel efficient if gas prices are going to keep climbing like they have been..(gas prices have gone up almost $1.00 since Jan 1 in MN..)
The majority of people in this thread don't have the non-S model; the non-S is the one that's rated 35/27/30. Most of us have an S or an S/ALL4, which have significantly lower EPA estimates. The S/ALL4 is 31/25/27.
I find that at reasonable highway speeds in the summer, I get slightly better than the EPA rating for overall driving (27 mpg), and slightly better than the EPA rating for just highway driving (31 mpg). In the winter, between the cold weather and the higher percentage of ethanol, I find it drops a little below that (2 mpg or so), so it's slightly under the EPA estimate in the winter.
And that's real MPG (miles driven on the tank divided by fuel put in). The computer doesn't seem to count the fuel used during starts, and it tends to come out slightly optimistic. If I went by the computer, I'd be well over the EPA estimated efficiency.

..thank you for that information!
