R60 iPhone 5 + MINI Connected
Speaking of Eyes Free...
BMW is moving it to a standard feature with iDrive. I wonder if that will come to Mini, too...

Looking forward to that. I'm putting off doing the same thing for obvious reasons.
Given their announcements about Siri Eyes Free coming in 2014 it'd be interesting to see if any of those features trickle backward to the old protocol known as iPod Out that BMW/Mini were dependent on... then Apple silently killed with the Lightning adapter.

If the updates the F56 is receiving won't be making it out to the rest of the line up for several years, maybe MINI will develop the needed updates for Eyes Free. But if the rest of the line up will be rapidly getting the update electronics the F56 is getting then MINI may not be too interested in brining that functionality to the currently installed base...
Just tested my IOS 7 on the Mini Connected and an iphone 5 with the lightning adapter and it works like a charm, even Spotify can be controlled rudimentary by the wheel buttons, like for example change tracks, it does not allow you to choose playlists, but the sound quality at 320 kbps you don't want to listen to radio anymore. I am ditching my Mog subscription in a few minutes.

Indeed. Going forward, iPod out is dead. Lightning simply doesn't support it, unless they make a new Lightning-to-30pin adapter that is able to do so.
I have an android and I'm way overdue for a free upgrade from sprint and was thinking about the iphone because I heard there are several extra options if you have an iphone. I would lose all my contacts of course and not sure if it's worth the switch over. Is it worth it?

Also, you don't have to lose your Google calendar or contacts. IPhone will sync with them no problem. I use both an iPhone 4S and a Galaxy Nexus (as a beater phone) and their calendars and contacts stay synced. The only thing you will have to re do is buying apps. But remember, all your devices on the same Apple account ( up to 10 ) get access to every app you buy ( pay once and use on up to 10 devices like iPads and iPods). Great for families.
Enjoy!

*EDIT* - I stand corrected, Spotify *does* do 320kbps using the 'extreme' setting.
As does iTunes Match (and the forthcoming iTunes Radio).
But really, 192kbps is as high of a quality most can discern anyway, especially in a stock car sound system (even a stock premium car sound system)
NO MOg in the background, I tested it today when i received an e-mail and the sound was gone, still a nuisance from Apple.
I like Spotify better, I have a Mac Mini at home tied to a high end receiver, and when I have guests I can control Spotify with my ipad, the same cannot be accomplished by Mog, also, Spotify has lists that are more up to date than MOg, and I am not liking to pay for two subscriptions.
One last comment ditching Mog is a bad idea, I was trying to make Spotify to work and the SOB was not very cooperative, I almost hit a sidewall doing it, which if it had occurred would make me spend enough to pay for MOg for the life of the car...
Maybe figure it out while you're not driving...
That's a key reason. I use a Sonos system and find MOG works better with Sonos than Spotify.
