The plugin is purely a video input system that lets you control the mirrored ipod control interface. With no ipod out functionality, no plugin.

Connected is a separate system that works just fine. There is the external control device which is my preference for listening to music, but is menu driven and not interface driven.

Angry I-Phone 5 Not Compatible W/ 2012 Countryman

Hello to all Mini drivers out there!!

I recently purchased the Apple I-Phone 5 and like many of you couldn't wait till I got my adapter the Lightning to 30-pin adapter. Well sad and disappointed to say all it does is charge your i-phone. Can't access my contacts, can't use hands free feature, no music, etc. all the adapter is good for is to charge the phone. I contacted Apple and spoke to a supervisor and he thought it was the software that Mini needed to upgrade so he contacted them and he was told that Mini would not upgrade the software instead they would be creating their own cables with the new adapter. I am a bit frustrated as everything worked fine with my I-phone 4 so basically I changed for the worse.

Thanks for the info. I will try all the suggestions given first thing in the morning. After installing the adapter I turned on my blue tooth and paired it. I got the message that said I was connected to the Mini software and after that I kept getting the message plugin not compatible and nothing worked. So far all that the adapter has done for me is charge my phone. I have the 2012 Countryman. I remember that when I purchased my Mini this past December all I did was download the software to my iPhone 4 and with my blue tooth on in no time I had access to everything including the use of Waze GPS instructions through the car speakers, now I have nothing!

I really want to thank you and everyone who has provided or can provide hints. Once I try all suggestions tomorrow morning I will return to this forum to report the outcome.

My 2012 (11/11 build) CMS required a MINI Connected software update, though I can't say that I encountered any problems. Check THIS pdf to see if applies to your MINI.

Also, there was a post (earlier?) in which the OP COULD connect via the uncabled Lightning>30-pin adapter, but COULD NOT using the 0.2m cabled adapter. Is your adapter cabled or uncabled?

I am sure that you will be enjoying all those new gadgets. I know I was very excited when I got my mini it was the first one I ever owned. I've had 5 BMW but never liked the mini until I met the Countryman it was love at first sight?? It's amazing how many people stop me to ask me about the car. I swear to you once on the expressway an old couple got next to me asked me to pull down my window just to tell me that they love my car. It's amazing all the compliments this little car has gotten. I never got any compliments on any of my BMW's.

I have a 2012 with Connected and Nav....I plugged in my iPhone 5 with Lightning adapter and I get the warning that it may not be compatible, but the only thing that isnt compatible is the video....I disabled Music Bluetooth because otherwise it gets confused when trying to play it, but all contacts come over on mine, MINI Connected works like a charm, and all Album Artwork come over when playing music

I own the 2012 Countryman and it came with the y cable so I bought the lightning 30 pin adapter. I've had many nice mini owners who have given me hints and this morning after hours of trying I was able to pair my phone via bluetooth with my car so I can now access my contacts but as far as the 30 pin adapter all it's good for it's charging the phone. Apple continues to say that Mini needs to upgrade their software as others have.

Please pardon my ignorance. I am not very good with technology. What is the video for?? Is it for the cars that came with navigation? Where do you find Music Bluetooth? the iphone 5 or the mini. I don't see that on my car nor my iphone 5.

I made the big mistake of not waiting for a car that had navigation at the time I purchased it. When I got my car they only had a few and the only colors were the lemon green, red and white. I did not order mine, I just walked in and purchased it. I wonder if adding navigation at this time would be possible and the cost??

The contacts/hands-free are Bluetooth wireless, not related to the cable/USB connection. You must pair the phone to your car before that will work... check your manual to set that up.
Okay, thanks for all the tips. I did what you told me I rebooted my I phone, disconnected/connected the cables and as far as the new adapter working nothing. It's only good for charging. Good thing was that after trying several times I was able to finally pair my phone with the mini and see my contacts. However, I am a bit confused because before this I-phone 5 I had the 4 and it never asked me or gave me the option to remove the I-phone 4 from the list and even if it did it does not specify all it says on the mini screen is I-phone.

Is your Lightning>30-pin iPhone adapter the "short" version (no cable) or the 0.2m version with the cable? This is the part that plugs into your iPhone so the 30-pin "Y" cable can be connected.

Thanks,

Question ...

Well, I did connect my iPhone 5 with the small white adaptor from Apple and everything was ok. Web radio, dynamic music, mini analyser, everything except video. I don't care for video at the moment. BUT after some time of use, maybe an hour or so, everything stops, and I can't reconnect. Even if I restart the application. The cables are in place . They all start working again only if I restart the iPhone 5. I use the Y cable from mini and the adaptor from apple , everything are original, but I don't know what happens and stop the connection .... If anyone has any tip I'm listening .... Thank you in advance.

I have used both the un-cabled 30-pin>Lightning adapter and the cabled 30-pin>Lightning adapter. Both function as you would expect they would (but, of course, no video). However, I found the the un-cabled adapter had a less firm connection (even w/o an iP5 case) than the cabled adapter.

If you are using the un-cabled adapter, I wonder if it is working loose a little bit. I have settled on using the cabled adapter and took a 4-hour round trip (with plenty of rough New England roads) without any issues. Additionally, I can keep the case on the iP5 since the Lightning plug on the end of the cable fits in the case's dock opening.

Not sure, but it might help...

Thank you for your quick reply, I only use the no cable adaptor, so I can't compare if it is loose... And also my iPhone 5 case is wide in the lighting plug, so it hasn't any problem . I was wondering if it is hardware problem or software.... Should I buy a new cable adapter ?

Well, no guarantee it will fix things, so perhaps you could borrow a friends cabled adaptor and make sure that it solves the problem before buying one. You might also want to remove your iP5 case and give that a whirl with your current adapter.

Just trying to save you a bit of €€€ just in case...

So it's hardware problem and not software . Now I remember when I bought my iPhone 5 i connect with the standard USB cable which the phone came with. I did test mini connected application and all work perfect except the sound was coming out from then iPhone. So it's the adaptor problem or the Y cable ???

I am not so sure it is a problem related to your equipment. I have a new Iphone 5 now and it experiences the same issue. It will work for a period of time but at some point it will just stop. I don not have this issue with the Iphone 4.

I tried multiple adapters and cables, Same thing

I can get the Iphone 5 to reconnect by rebooting it

so still looking for a solution
