R60 iPhone 5 + MINI Connected
I too have the issue of only being able to use all the connected features and App when I reboot the iPhone 5. Then an hour or so later it doesn't read it. Rebooting the phone to make it work is rather annoying. We'll just have to wait for a new Y-Cable and iOS 6 support....which is a bummer because I use the Connected App everytime I drive. Fairly new car...new phone...no Connected
I tried it with my old Iphone which i upgraded to IOS 6 and had no issues with it at all. So it has to be something with the Iphone 5. When it works everything seems to run,( album art work and all) The Iphone 5 just dies at random times. I figure by now BMW would have a solution.

So I went ahead and purchased the stupidly priced 30 pin to lightning adapter to use with the current Y-Cable......and what do you know, it works! Everything works aside from the plug in feature for the iPod interface...which I don't have a problem with because I never used that. That interface comes off as super dated to me. Much rather use the other option to play the iPod, then the plugin feature through blue connected icon.
I have a 2010 mini (No mini connection). I purchased the 30 pin adapter from Best Buy and it works perfectly. I found that the iphone says "Charging not supported", but after listening to music for several hours, it was actually charging. (just saying it wasn't). So, this will work great. No need to wait for the new adapter to come out!
Just purchased a 2012 Countryman S with no Nav/Connected, just the HD radio. I used the Y-cable adapter + non-cabled 30-pin/lightning adapter and everything worked fine.
The only issue is that my Belkin case does NOT support the apple adapter because the lightning stub is too short. I guess I need to buy the "cabled" version.

It probably doesn't affect you but the plug on the cabled Lightning adapter is a bit larger than that on the straight USB->Lightning cable. Kind of a drag if your case is designed to accommodate the OEM plug.
My case is made by SwitchEasy and has a Lightning-sized cut out in it. I have both the cabled and straight 30-pin > Lightning adapters. The non-cabled adapter's Lightning plug is too short to pass through the case opening and into the dock because of the body of the 30-pin portion of the adapter prevents full engagement. However, the cabled adapter works just fine!
If the cabled adapter's Lightning plug is just a bit too large in diameter for your case, why not increase the diameter of the case's dock opening.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't time out/shut off at the same time every time. Can anyone else confirm that?
Last night I just helped a friend modify the Lightning plug end of the cabled adapter to fit his iP5 case (not sure what case brand...but not wood!). I used a small sanding wheel on a Dremel tool and beveled the leading plastic edges of the Lightning plug. It worked wonderfully!
Underneath the white plastic is a metal shield. You want to make a 45º bevel on the leading edges of the plastic, being careful to stop as soon as you see the metal shield. I mounted the Lightning plug in a small vise so that I could better control the Dremel's sanding wheel. YOU DO NOT WANT TO ACCIDENTALLY CONTACT THE METAL PLUG END IN THIS PROCESS!
I will be seeing him today and will try to get a picture to post.

HTH,
Until someone can make the "security chip" inside of it, yes
Just took possession of a 2013 JCW Countryman with Nav etc.
I too was pleased to find that the adapter worked allowing me to use almost all the functionality (not Plug In). The most frustrating experience, however, has been the random disconnection which indeed requires me to reboot the iPhone 5.
I am so looking forward to a resolution of this issue.

Had my Mini for 7 months or so, but didn't have an iPhone to try it out. Just got an iPhone 5 last week, and I stole the lightening adapter from my business partner who bought it but isn't using it. I haven't had the chance to run through it all, but it seems like it's all working. For what it's worth, I also downloaded an IOS update, 6.1 today. Didn't try using connected before the update though, so don't ask... Bluetooth Audio works flawlessly while streaming Pandora, or even playing music stored on my phone (I know this has nothing to do with Connected). When connected to the system via the cable/lightening connector, everything works as I think it should for MINI Connected. Not sure which menu you would click to access video's, but I could care less about not being able to watch video...
I'm a little excited about this...Here's some pics for anyone who cares to see how it looks on a nav car:

Can't seem to get this to show much though, don't know why...maybe I didn't drive long enough (20 minute drive, about 16 miles)?

Web Radio

Pretty cool!
I downloaded a few themes for the Dynamic Music, and Mission Control, will have to try it tomorrow to see how it works!

Hi All! I just ordered my 2013 Countryman with the Navigation/technology package. It should be here in July and I'm trying to get all "prepared" for it's arrival.
I have a Samsung Galaxy phone (which I love) but am switching to the iphone to have the Mini Connected feature. From what all of you are saying, I should purchase the iphone 4 or 4s if I would like to have video? Any negatives to buying the 4 or 4s over the new iphone 5?
Alternatively, are there ipods out there that I could use to play video (-ie. you tube, netflix, downloaded movies, etc) in the car on the mini's screen? If so any recommendations on which ones and what kind of cables/connections I'd need to also purchase?
Thanks!

motor on!
I'm not sure that's correct. Certainly you need a pre-iPhone5, but you also need to make a number of coding changes in the R60's control modules. There are write-ups on the BMWCoding forums that have been borrowed in order to get the R60 to allow VIM. This shouldn't require a jailbreak as the limiting factor is not the phone but the R60's VIM lockout.
P.S. - what's your take on the new UI? I'm not sure about it, but there are some nice changes.
Yes I am, I will let you know tomorrow.
Looking forward to that. I'm putting off doing the same thing for obvious reasons.
Given their announcements about Siri Eyes Free coming in 2014 it'd be interesting to see if any of those features trickle backward to the old protocol known as iPod Out that BMW/Mini were dependent on... then Apple silently killed with the Lightning adapter.
