Saturday, I backed out of the garage to take the bike rack off, and there were two half dollar sized spots of oil on the floor. As we were headed out for a weekend trip, I ran it over to my dealer quick. He said it was a oil pressure sensor leak and would probably result in a recall soon. Part is ordered, and will have a loaner for the day and half scheduled repair later this week. While it was in, they noted the coolant sensor recall and replaced that in under an hour.

Meh.

 

Rats. I was just in to replace the coolant sensor. Now another recall, ugh.

 

I had mine in for an oil leak. It was more like a seep than a leak because there were no drips, just one engine mount was coated with oil and it was caught by the dealer when we had a special dealer day and the car got up on the rack and I had a fun time under it.

So they replaced a gasket which meant removing the oil pan and the one wheel assembly plus they did the coolant sensor recall.

Don't know if this is the same thing or not. They did mention that this was a problem on some CM's.

 

Sigh ... 5k miles and not one problem so far. (knock on wood). Did the coolant sensor recall.

 

I have to ask the dealer about this! I pick mine up on friday.

 

I dropped off my Mini 2011 Countryman S 4all (30k miles) yesterday for an oil change and was told that my car has a recall for two bad sensors, one coolant and one relay sensor.

My concern is that the service manager told me that my car could be in for service for up to three weeks because the bad sensor is leaking oil into the main wiring harness and the oil is running back (in the harness) to the main computer in some cars. He told me this is a new recall and if the computer was affected by the oil the computer would also have to be replaced. Ok, works for me! BUT, I was thinking, is Mini (BMW) also going to replace the wiring harness that is now filled with oil from the leaking sensor? I have a call into the dealer about this concern.

I was wondering if anyone else was told about this "oil leak" affecting the main computer and the wiring harness? If so, how is the damaged harness going to be addressed?

I went in for a standard service and was told more had to be done. At 22K I needed to have my rear brake pads replace - predicted because they had been monitoring brake pad wear, so no surprise. In addition, the seal under the chain tensioner needed to be replaced as a preventive measure - OK. While they were at it, they also checked the connection for the solenoid valve in the oil pan and found it was leaking. The oil had wicked up into the wiring harness but had not reached the engine computer. They disassembled all kinds of stuff in the right front, pulled the axle shaft, pan, and transfer case, replaced the wiring harness to the solenoid connector, and found a small leak around the axle shaft. So they replaced the axle shaft because they didn't have the special o-ring for that, as well. When they got done they declared all to be OK and Fenton to be up to date. It took 3 days.
There never was any oil on the ground as a result of these leaks.

 

@lilb and ghamma, my countryman has exact the same problem today. don't know how serious the problem will be. did your countryman went ok after the dealer fix i only had about 5600 miles on it…pls let me know

 

No further problems, so the fixes worked very well.

 

My countryman is going in for the third time for an oil leak. This will be the 5th time I've had issues with this car. Plus I have developed a run roof rattle of some kind. Seems like a window or a metallic rattle. At only 27k this car will not last.

If it's shedding parts like mine, and leaking oil, get out now. I hear they can run a few quarts low without a warning.

 

Same issue...no visible oil on the ground, 2012 with 17k

 

Just had my third leak repaired yesterday. 22k.
Land Rover called, they want their gaskets back.

Same issue valve cover leak and oil on to harness. $2700 to fix both issues I am out of warranty. Any update on this recall? I am gonna take it to an aftermarket shop and get a quote

If there is not a recall we should get together and work on a petition to mini usa. But I assume most of you have not paid for this out of pocket and it has been covered under warranty.

 

2012 Mini with about 16K. Have an oil spot on the garage floor on the right (passenger) side. Have not done any searching, but I am expecting this not to be good. Only a 5.5 hour drive (one way) to the dealer. Suggestions on where to look? is this one of the sensor leak areas? TIA

 

likely the oil pump solenoid leaking. careful, when the oil wicks down the wiring harness, poof goes the dme. The wicking, as in mine, wasnt evident which resulted in two teardowns, remote diagnosis, many parts, harnesses and the dme finally.

It's a big job, I'd look for that leak (maybe locally on a shop lift if you dont have the means, although I think you can crawl under) If that's the case, I'd see what options you have to get it there safely/cheap. Maybe announcing your intentions beforehand might get you the tow should it break down outside of roadside assistance on your way?

Again, may or may not be the problem, it's a 8-10 guess based on the common issue with low mileage leaks. pm me if you have any questions.

 

Had a local shop put it on a hoist - appears that it is the water pump leaking. Blue fluid (antifreeze) spread all over and dripping. Calling Mini to see if they want me to drive it 350 miles or if they want to tow it.

SA called mini usa and got them to cover most of my repair bill of $2700. Ended up paying $700 out of pocket

 

Mini Roadside sent a Flat Bed tow and took the Mini to Mini of Dallas. They not only had to replace the water pump, but also found the oil solenoid leaking and did the repair on that complete with wiring harness. Back on the road good as new.

 

I think this is one of the other things they took care of while my MINI was in the shop. I'll have to take a look at the invoice again to confirm.

 

2012 Countryman All4 S. At 53k first oil leak, crankshaft seal replaced, $500 paid. Within two months, engine oil light on, brought to the dealer and was told that oil solenoid valve broke, damaged engine wiring harness, $4000 to fix but the dealer will cover a good amount of it.

Looked online and found similar issues here and there. No formal recalls through mini website. How can we work on the petition to MINI USA?

 

Has there been any more leak issues ever since the fix?

 

Alleged MINI Cooper engine problems have caused a proposed class-action lawsuit represented by Capstone Law APC, going to call and find out more!

 

Went in for an oil change and they said my thermostat housing needed to be replaced. Said they redesigned the part "known issue" and it was leaking oil on the transmission. 900 to fix.
